ITHACA, N.Y. -- Dartmouth went into Cornell's playbook in the fourth quarter and duplicated the Big Red's first quarter dominance, but the Big Green's touchdowns canceled out the home team's field goals en route to a 17-13 win on Saturday afternoon at Schoellkopf Field. Cornell slipped to 3-5 (1-4 Ivy), while Dartmouth improved to 4-4 (1-4 Ivy).
The Big Green scored twice and dominated time of possession in the fourth quarter, holding the football for 13:11 and running 28 plays to Cornell's eight. It converted 6-of-7 third downs, completely flipping the script on a dominant Big Red first quarter to open the 100th meeting between the rivals. Cornell held the ball for 12:55 and ran 20 plays to four for the Big Green while converting on 6-of-8 third down opportunities. The only difference between the two quarters - Cornell scored two field goals despite drives of 13 and 16 plays. Dartmouth scored touchdowns to cap 12- and nine-play drives.
Dartmouth's Jack Heneghan found Charles Mack from 7 yards out with 6:42 left in regulation to takes its first lead of the day a little more than four minutes after scoring its first touchdown on a 1-yard plunge by Miles Smith. Smith ended the afternoon with 119 yards on 25 carries, becoming the first Big Green player to surpass 100 yards in a game in more than two years.

Dalton Banks completed 28-of-43 passes for 216 yards and a touchdown, a 4-yard acrobatic, juggling catch by junior tight end
Hayes Nolte in the back of the end zone that gave the home team a 13-3 lead with 4:26 left in the third quarter. Cornell's offense was otherwise bottled up, collecting 270 yards of offense in the game despite three separate scoring drives of at least 13 plays, including a 17-play, 86-yard drive that took more than half of the third quarter to develop.
Heneghan, was 22-of-33 passing for 226 yards and a touchdown. He directed an offense that tallied 407 total yards. Folarin Orimolade had six tackles, a pair of sacks and forced a fumble that turned the tide for good in the fourth. After Dartmouth scored to cut the Big Red lead to 13-10, Cornell went back on the attack with 26 yards on its first two plays to get inside the Big Green 40. Orimolade was able to punch the football out of the hands of
Chris Walker for Cornell's lone giveaway of the day. Less than three minutes later, the visitors had their first lead.
Nick Gesualdi had 10 tackles to lead the Big Red, while
Kurt Frimel made eight stops, including one for a loss.

• The game served as the 100th meeting between the two programs meaning the Big Red has now reached the century mark in games played in three series (Penn - 122, Columbia - 102) and will reach that mark next year against two more schools (Colgate, Princeton).

• Dartmouth evened the series at 24-24 in 48 all-time meetings in Ithaca.
Success In The Classroom
• Earlier in the week, Cornell football had five players named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District 1 team.
• All five will be on the national ballot for the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America team.

Jack Gellatly (3.75 GPA, Government) has 139 rushing yards on 4.6 yards per carry with one touchdown and has caught eight passes for 77 yards while playing in five of the team's seven games thus far.
• Senior offensive lineman
Jake Waltman (3.71 GPA, Communication) has started five contests at left guard, helping the Big Red offense improve its scoring average, total offense numbers and lower its sacks allowed per game over a season ago.
• Senior linebacker
Jackson Weber (3.72 GPA, Government), a four-year starter and senior captain, is the team's third-leading tackler (57) and has added 4.0 tackles for loss, six pass breakups and an interception in his final season.
• Junior defensive lineman
Seth Hope (3.83 GPA, Applied Economics and Management) paces the Big Red defensive line with 36 tackles and has added 2.5 tackles for a loss and a sack while starting all seven contests.
• Senior defensive lineman
Michael Staples (3.74 GPA, Biometry and Statistics & Applied Economics and Management) is a three-year starter who lines up at nose guard and has eight tackles for a defense ranking among the Ivy leaders in takeaways.
• The five members of the District 2 team were the most of any school.
• The Big Red has had 12 football players earn a total of 16 appearances on the CoSIDA Academic All-America team dating back to 1977.

• Cornell will hit the road for the final time in 2016 when it visits Columbia on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. at Wien Stadium.
