ITHACA, N.Y. — In its final action before the postseason, the eighth-ranked women's squash team dropped a 9-0 decision to second-ranked Penn on Sunday at Belkin International Squash Courts.
Cornell closes its regular season with a record of 9-7 overall and 2-5 in Ivy League, but it remains in position for the eighth and final berth into the Howe Cup, which is the top flight of the College Squash Association's national championships.
Junior
Rachel Scherman had the Big Red's best showing Sunday, forcing a fifth set at her match at the No. 2 position. The match served as Cornell's Senior Day, with the Big Red's two seniors both in action —
Reut Odinak and
Olivia Wherry. Wherry (No. 9) and freshman
Lauren Leizman (No. 7) each won one set in their respective matches.
Cornell will now await the next wave of CSA computer rankings to learn its draw for the national championships, which will be staged Feb. 26-28 in Connecticut.
