HANOVER, N.H. — The women's tennis team was defeated by Brown, 4-1, on Friday morning to kick off play at this weekend's ECAC Indoor Championships at Dartmouth's Boss Tennis Center.
Cornell (2-2) won the doubles point to start the day. Making her collegiate dual debut, freshman
Mariko Iinuma paired with sophomore
Madison Stevens to win the No. 3 match, 6-3. After 54th-ranked Brown (3-1) won the No. 2 match, the Big Red's No. 1 pairing of juniors
Marika Cusick and
Alexandra D'Ascenzo clinched the point with a 6-4 victory.
Unfortunately for the Big Red, Brown rattled off four straight singles victories to take the match — though Cornell's D'Ascenzo (No. 2) and senior
Jane Stewart (No. 4) were ahead in the third set of their respective matches when play was called.
Cornell will compete next at 10 a.m. Saturday in the consolation semifinals against second-seeded and 43rd-ranked Princeton. The Tigers were upset, 4-2, by seventh-seeded Harvard on Friday afternoon.
