HARRISON, N.Y. — Senior
Stefan Vinti clinched the men's tennis team's 4-2 victory over St. John's on Friday night, staving off seven set points before winning 7-6, 7-5 at the No. 5 singles position. Cornell (7-8), which entered the weekend ranked 60th in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, will take a two-match win streak into its Ivy League opener against defending champion Columbia next week.
The win improves Cornell's all-time record to 16-1 against St. John's (14-5), which was technically the favorite on Friday with the ITA's 53rd national ranking in tow.
After the Big Red won the top two doubles match to take the early lead, junior
Colin Sinclair won at No. 2 singles and freshman
David Volfson came out on top in straight sets at No. 1.
