STAMFORD, Conn. — Senior Gustav Runersjö was the top finisher among six Cornell competitors at the College Squash Association's Individual Championships this weekend at The Squash Club at Chelsea Piers.
All of the Big Red's competitors were in divisions below the top flight of the CSA's season-ending showcase. Runersjö finished second in the Molloy (B) Division after coming up on the short end of a four-set match against St. Lawrence's Lenard Puski on Sunday morning. To get the finals, Runersjö outlasted Yale's Zachary Leman in a Saturday quarterfinal, 4-11, 11-7, 11-5, 2-11, 11-4, then cruised past another Yale entry, Sam Fenwick, in a three-set semifinal.
In the Molloy (A) Division, junior
Harry Freeman topped Franklin & Marshall's Pedro Almeida, 11-4, 11-9, 11-4, in the quarterfinals. Trinity's Affeeq Ismail then eliminated Freeman in the semifinals, 11-5, 3-11, 11-7, 11-5.
In the consolation bracket of the Molloy (C) Division, senior
Graham Dietz beat Stanford's Yousef Hindy in the quarterfinals, 11-1, 9-11, 11-5, 11-2, but then lost to Hobart's Josh Oakley, 12-10, 11-7, 11-4, in the semifinals.
All three of the Big Red's women's entries were competing in the Holleran (A) Division, where junior
Rachel Scherman finished highest by advancing to the semifinals. She had to defeat a teammate to get there, topping sophomore
Emma Uible in the quarterfinals, 11-3, 11-8, 11-8. Stanford's Zandra Ho then topped Scherman in the semifinals, 11-8, 11-8, 11-1.
In the division's consolation bracket, sophomore
Charlotte Knaggs was defeated in the quarterfinals by Drexel's Fiona Power, 11-6, 9-11, 11-5, 11-8.
