Silver, Bronze, National Record For Cornell Track Athletes

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Summer 2016 continues to provide impressive highlights for the Cornell track and field program on the world stage.

Two of the captains for next year's track team had a chance to represent their national teams at the North American, Central American, and Caribbean (NACAC) U-23 Championships this past weekend in El Salvador and both Rudy Winkler and Taysia Radoslav came away with medals and terriffic results.

Rising senior Rudy Winkler, fresh off his U.S. Olympic Trials victory in the hammer, placed second in the hammer at NACAC to earn a silver medal, throwing 239-6 (73.00 meters), finishing only behind Mexico's Diego A. del Real, who currently has the 13th best throw in the world this year.

Representing Canada, rising junior Taysia Radoslav placed fifth in the 400 hurdles in 58.78 and then came back at the end of the meet to lead off Team Canada's third place 4x400 relay to earn a bronze medal, as the team ran 3:44.45.

Not to be out-done, recent graduate Stephen Mozia '14 competed in a meet in Andujar, Spain this past Friday and set a new Nigerian national record in the shot put, reaching 68-3 3/4 to place first.

Next up is the Olympic Games in Rio and Cornell Track and Field will be very well represented!  Cornell men's head coach Adrian Durant is on the coaching staff for the US Virgin Islands (and was also coaching at NACAC this weekend), rising senior Winkler will represent the United States in the hammer throw,  Mozia will represent Nigeria in the shot put, Brune Hortelano-Roig '14 will represent Spain in the 100 and 200, and Muhammad Halim '08 will compete in the triple jump for the U.S. Virgin Islands.
