ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's tennis team sailed to a 7-0 victory over Army West Point on Sunday morning in its first dual match of the season at Reis Tennis Center.
 
The senior team of Marika Cusick and Alexandra D'Ascenzo dominated at the No. 1 position, 6-1, then juniors Madison Stevens and Lizzie Stewart clinched the day's opening point with a 6-2 from the No. 3 spot.
 
Cornell then got off to a fast start with easy first-set victories from the top four positions. Stewart then won her tie-breaker at No. 5 moments after junior Priyanka Shah wrapped her 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 to give the home side a 2-0 lead.
 
Sophomore Mariko Iinuma was next to wrap up her match at No. 4, 6-2, 6-1, then Stewart breezed through six straight games in the second set to clinch the match.
 
Cusick (No. 1) and D'Ascenzo (No. 2) wrapped up straight-set victories, then Stevens won at No. 6 in a super tie-breaker to end the day.
 
Up next for Cornell is a trip next weekend to the 2017 ITA Women's Kick-Off Weekend. The Big Red is the fourth seed at the site, meaning it will take on top-seeded host Oklahoma State at 3 p.m. CST Saturday. Cornell will then draw Wichita State or TCU next Sunday.
