Ithaca, N.Y. • Newman Arena (4,473)

QUICK HITS
• A new-look Cornell wrestling team will take the mat for the first time when the Big Red welcomes No. 13 Northern Iowa to Newman Arena for a season-opening dual meet on Friday, Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m.
• Live video of the dual can be viewed with a subscription to the Ivy League Network.
• Members of the Big Red will also compete in Sunday's New York State Championship at Barton Hall with the program looking for a record sixth consecutive team title.
• That would continue one of many streaks for the Big Red — Cornell also enters the season looking to extend its record streak of EIWA titles to 12 and its Ivy championship run to 16, all the while preparing to make a mark at nationals.
• Cornell is ranked 19th nationally in the initial USA Today/NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll.
• The Big Red has set its sights high — with the NCAA Championships set for Cleveland, Ohio in March, Cornell believes it should be in the mix for yet another top 10 team finish.
• Cornell returns five starters from last season's EIWA championship lineup, including NCAA All-American Brandon Womack and national qualifier Ben Honis.
• Womack, ranked sixth nationally after moving from 165 to 174 pounds, will anchor the lineup after finishing eighth at NCAAs and winning an Eastern title this past spring.
• Womack was one of five Big Red grapplers to win titles at last weekend's Binghamton Open, joining junior Jon Jay Chavez (165), sophomore Michael Russo (125) and freshmen Yianni Diakohimalis (141) and Max Dean (141) as champions.
• Other top finishers were freshman Ben Darmstadt (runner-up at 197), juniors Jonathan Furnas (third at 149) and Ben Honis (third at 197), sophomore Milik Dawkins (fourth at 165) and junior Joey Galasso (fourth at 157).
• Diakohimalis is ranked 13th, Dean is 17th and Honis sits 18th in the latest Intermat rankings.

HEAD COACH ROB KOLL
• Cornell head coach Rob Koll is in his 25th season at Cornell (280-89-5, .755; 111-8-1 Ivy, .929).
• Koll is the David R. Dunlop '59 Head Coach of Wrestling at Cornell.
• The all-time winningest wrestling coach in program history, Koll has guided the Big Red to 15 straight Ivy League titles (18 overall), 11 consecutive EIWA crowns and eight top five NCAA team finishes, including second twice (2010, 2011).
• He was the 2005 NWCA Division I Coach of the Year and the Dan Gable Coach of the Year.
• His wrestlers have won 14 national titles with 59 All-Americans and 59 individual EIWA champions.

ABOUT NORTHERN IOWA
• Led by three wrestlers ranked in the top eight of their respective weight classes, Northern Iowa will also be opening its dual meet schedule this weekend.
• The Panthers bring back a slew of experienced wrestlers, including four that open the season nationally ranked — No. 19 Jay Schwarm (125), No. 3 Max Thomsen (149), No. 8 Taylor Lujan (174) and No. 4 Drew Foster (184).
• Thomsen took fifth at NCAAs a season ago, while Foster was seventh.
• Northern Iowa is beginning its first season as an affiliate member of the Big XII after winning a Mid-American Conference regular season title last year.
• Eighth-year head coach Doug Schwab guided the team to its best NCAA finish since 2005 (15th in 2013) and has coached eight All-Americans and 35 NCAA qualifiers while posting a 65-42 dual meet record.

CORNELL-NORTHERN IOWA SERIES
• Cornell leads the all-time series with UNI 3-0.
• It will be the first time the Big Red has welcomed Northern Iowa to Ithaca, as Cornell's previous wins have come at the Virginia Duals, at UNI in the NWCA Cliff Keen National Duals and at the Grapple at the Garden.
• The two teams first met during the 1996-97 season, a 19-14 Cornell win.
• The Big Red won the last meeting 35-4 on Dec. 21, 2014 at Madison Square Garden.

LAST TIME VS. NORTHERN IOWA
• The Big Red won its first nine bouts en route to a 35-4 victory over perennial power Northern Iowa on Dec. 21, 2014 at Madison Square Garden.
• The highlight was a top 10 matchup for Nahshon Garrett, who controlled the match throughout on his way to a 6-2 victory over No. 6 Dylan Peters.
• Gabe Dean continued to roll with a second period fall over Cody Caldwell, and Nick Arujau earned a tech fall at 141 over Jake Hodges, running the score up to 15-0 in the second period.
