Polo Teams Continue Sprint To Championship Season At Home

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell polo teams get back to work this weekend when the Big Red women welcome the Central New York Polo Club on Friday, Feb. 10 and the men face Kentucky on Saturday, Feb. 11 with both starting at 7:30 p.m. at Oxley Equestrian Center.

The men bring a 9-2 record into its contest, including 5-2 at home. The Big Red has gone 2-1 over its last three games since suffering the first loss of the year. Now it will meet Kentucky for the first time since a 26-12 triumph over the Wildcats in the first round of the 2013 Bill Field Invitational.

Eldredge has a 448-180-8 (.711) record in his 32 years on the sidelines for the men, including 29 straight appearances in the finals of the Northeast Regionals and 13 straight trips to nationals, including the 2005 USPA collegiate national title.

The women have lost two straight to fall to 5-8 on the season. Cornell will look for a strong spring finish while attempting to avoid its first losing season since 2006.

The Big Red won its second straight and 15th national title in program history last year. Cornell has advanced to the national title game each of the last six seasons with titles in 2011, 2015 and 2016. Eldredge enters the weekend approaching his 500th career win with the women and sports a 497-139-17 (.774) record. All told, he has a 945-319-25 (.743) mark as a collegiate head coach.
