ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's squash team returns to action this weekend at Belkin International Squash Courts, first taking on top-ranked Harvard at noon Saturday before wrapping up the weekend against Dartmouth at noon Sunday.
Cornell (3-1, 0-1 Ivy League) remains eighth in the College Squash Association's national rankings after its last match action, which consisted of a loss to No. 7 Columbia and a victory over No. 13 Virginia on Dec. 2. Senior Michèle Garceau (Nos. 1 and 3 positions) and sophomore Lucy Martin (No. 8) both lead the team with 4-0 records to date. Six other members of the team sport a 3-1 record, as the Big Red has taken 28 of a possible 36 points so far.
Harvard (1-0, 1-0) remains in the nation's top team after recording a 15-0 record and its third consecutive Howe Cup championship last year. The Crimson has won 39 consecutive matches, dating back to Jan. 11, 2015. Cornell has never defeated Harvard in 24 all-time meetings between the programs.
The match against Dartmouth (4-1, 0-1) is more pivotal, in the sense that the Big Green is currently ranked 10th in the country and the Big Red is currently aligned for the eighth and final berth into the Howe Cup – which is the 'A' flight of the College Squash Association's national championships. All of Dartmouth's matches to date came in the first 10 of December, including three victories against other teams currently positioned for the nation's 'B' flight – No. 12 George Washington, No. 14 Williams and No. 15 Middlebury. Cornell is 12-14 all-time against the Big Green, though the Big Red has won the last 10 meetings. Garceau (No. 1), Madison Miles (No. 4) and Charlotte Knaggs (No. 7) swept the final wave in last year's match between the squads, giving the Big Red a 7-2 victory.
