• A pair of duals and the 2018 New York State Championships will kick off the 2018 wrestling season for the ninth-ranked Big Red.
• Cornell will visit Binghamton on Friday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m., host West Virginia on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. at Newman Arena nad lock up with some of New York state's best all day on Sunday at Barton Hall.
• Cornell and Big Red athletics will celebrate "
Kyle Dake Day" as part of the Big Red's home opening wrestling match against West Virginia — admission for kids through eighth grade is free.
• Dake '13, who won Cornell's first World Championship in the sport last month, will have a meet-and-greet and post-match autograph session following the Big Red's matchup against the Mountaineers.

• The Lansing, N.Y. native won the 79 kg freestyle crown with a 2-0 win over Jabrayil Hasanov of Azerbaijan in the finals.

• Members of the Big Red will also compete in Sunday's New York State Championship at Barton Hall with the program looking for a record seventh consecutive team title.
• That would continue one of several streaks for the Big Red — Cornell also enters the season looking to extend its record streak of Ivy titles to 17, regain its EIWA championship and prepare to make a mark at nationals.
• Cornell is ranked ninth nationally in the initial USA Today/NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll.
• The Big Red has set its sights high — with the NCAA Championships set for Pittsburgh, Pa. in March, Cornell believes it should be in the mix for yet another top 10 team finish.
• After taking second at the EIWA Championships at Hofstra, snapping a string of 11 consecutive conference titles, the Big Red took seven qualifiers to the national championships - crowning four All-Americans and

ABOUT BINGHAMTON
• Binghamton opens its dual meet season against the Big Red on Friday evening.
• The Bearcats feature No. 15 Lou DePrez at 184, where he will match up with Cornell's returning All-American
Max Dean in the feature match.
• Frankie Garcia, a returning NCAA qualifier at 149, and the older DePrez twins (Anthony at 197, Vincent at 174) will also factor into the team's success, as will 2018 Bearcat Open champ Audey Ashkar at 125.
• The Bearcats are coming off of one of their best seasons to date, finishing in seventh place overall at the 2018 Eastern's, marking the highest finish in program history.
• Binghamton had five place winners in the tournament, sending two wrestlers to nationals — Garcia and Steven Schneider.
• The Bearcats went 12-5 overall with a 6-1 EIWA mark for the regular season.
• Second-year head coach Kyle Borshoff was a two-time All-American at American and a three-time World Team Trials qualifier.
CORNELL-BINGHAMTON SERIES
• Cornell leads the all-time series with Binghamton 7-0.
• The series began in 1971-72, when the two teams met in a quad meet in Cortland with the Big Red outscoring the Bearcatas 97.5-53.5.
• The closest meet in series history came in Cornell's 22-21 win on Jan. 5, 2012 in Vestal, N.Y. The Big Red won on criteria after ending the meet tied 21-21 having had scored more points in the individual matches.
• The Big Red won the last meeting between the teams 33-6 on Nov. 23, 2013 at Newman Arena.
LAST TIME VS. BINGHAMTON
• The No. 7 Cornell wrestling team earned its first dual meet win of the season, downing Binghamton 33-6 in front of 2,012 fans in Newman Arena.
• It was the Big Red's 750th dual meet victory in program history and kept Cornell unbeaten all-time against the Bearcats (7-0).
• Heading into overtime with his team trailing 6-5, 13th-ranked
Chris Villalonga pulled out an 8-6 victory over Joe Bonaldi at 149 pounds to wrest momentum back from the Bearcats and Cornell swept through the rest of the lineup.

• The Mountaineers are off to a 1-0 start after a 22-14 home win over Big XII associate member Northern Colorado.
• WVU features returning national qualifier and 20th-ranked Matthew Schmitt at 133.
• Nine of the Mountaineers' 10 starters enter the weekend with winning records, including Schmitt at 6-0 and Zachary Moore (157), Nick Kiussis (165) and David Smith (285) all at 5-1.
• First-year head coach Tim Flynn spent the previous 21 seasons at Edinboro, helping produce 150 national qualifiers, 38 All-Americans, 64 EWL and 97 PSAC champions.
• He sports a 224-95-5 career record as a head coach.
CORNELL-WEST VIRGINIA SERIES
• Cornell won the only previous meeting between the programs with a 26-9 triumph in Troy, N.Y. as part of the Northeast Journeymen Duals during the 2014-15 campaign.
LAST TIME VS. WEST VIRGINIA
• The Cornell wrestling team has quality from top to bottom a number of times over, and that depth was on full display as the Big Red ripped through the Journeymen/ASICS Northeast Duals with three wins at Hudson Valley Community College, including a 26-9 victory over West Virginia.
• The middle weights also provided key results against the Mountaineers, as the Big Red rallied from an early 6-4 deficit through three bouts to run away with the victory.

Nahshon Garrett got the match started right with a dominant 19-8 major over No. 19 Zeke Moisey thanks to a huge third period, but it was five straight wins from 149 to 184, including a pair of one-point decisions, that proved to be the difference.

Jacob Aiken-Phillips wasted little time ending the dual, pinning his opponent just 39 seconds into the match to end the weekend on a high note.
CORNELL AT THE NEW YORK STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
• Cornell won a record 13th New York State Intercollegiate Championship on Nov. 19, 2017 at Barton Hall, crowning six individual champions.
• It was the sixth consecutive title for the Big Red.
• Cornell first competed at the championships in 1979, sending a B team to compete and finishing ninth overall.
• The Big Red won its first title in 1992, claiming six champions in the 10 weight classes.
• Cornell has won 93 individual titles over the years and 13 team titles, tied with Army West Point (13) and four ahead of Buffalo (nine).
• Other teams to have won NYS titles are Syracuse (5), Brockport (3), Binghamton (2), Hofstra (2), Columbia (1) and St. Lawrence (1).
