Morgan Puts His Name Into Consideration For NBA Draft

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell junior guard Matt Morgan has declared his intention to put his name into consideration for the 2018 NBA Draft. Morgan will not sign with an agent to preserve his final season of collegiate eligibility.

Morgan, a first-team All-Ivy League pick who was named to the Lou Henson All-America team earlier this week, led the conference in scoring for the third straight season. The 6-3 guard from Concord, N.C. had a stellar junior campaign, making a name for himself on the national stage while racing up Cornell's all-time scoring charts. The nation's 11th-leading scorer averaged 22.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists in guiding Cornell to its first-ever bid to the Ivy League Men's Basketball Tournament.

A four-time Ivy League Player of the Week, Morgan closed the season with an active streak of 51 consecutive games scoring in double figures, the fourth-longest active streak in Division I. Earlier this season, Morgan became the first Big Red player to post 12 consecutive 20-point games (previous Cornell record was six). He scored 30 or more points four times, and his seven career games of at least 30 points ranks second all-time at Cornell. Morgan enters his senior season with 1,646 points - good for No. 3 all-time at Cornell and among the top 20 in Ivy history.

Players may declare for the draft multiple times without losing college eligibility, as long as they withdraw before the NCAA's deadline (June 11) without hiring an agent. Players are allowed to attend the draft combine, if invited, and one tryout per year for each NBA team without losing college eligibility. The combine will be held in Chicago from May 16-20, with the draft occurring June 21. Players had to file paperwork with the NBA by April 22 at 11:59 p.m.

Morgan was the third Ivy League student-athlete in recent years to utilize the NBA Draft process when he did so in 2017, joining Yale's Greg Mangano (2011) and Makai Mason (2016). A total of 12 Cornellians have been selected in the NBA Draft, the last being Ken Bantum '85 in the seventh round by the New York Knicks in 1985. Four players who have suited up for the Big Red have appeared in the NBA, including Jeff Foote '10, who played for the New Orleans Hornets in 2012.
