ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's squash team returns from its intersession break with three matches this weekend in New England, first competing in a Saturday doubleheader at Harvard against the top-ranked hosts at 1 p.m. and fifth-ranked Stanford at 4 p.m. before trekking northwest to take on ninth-ranked Dartmouth at noon Sunday.
The match against the Crimson will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Cornell (1-2, 0-1 Ivy League) has slipped four spots to 12th in the Dunlop College Squash Rankings since its last action, a pair of 6-3 losses Dec. 1-2 in New York against Virginia and Columbia. Freshman
Steph Tan is a perfect 3-0 from the lower third of the order, while
Lily Zelov,
Madison Miles and
Mimi deLisser have two victories apiece among three appearances.
Harvard (1-0, 1-0) remains in the nation's top team after recording a 15-0 record and its fourth consecutive Howe Cup championship last year. The Crimson has won 54 consecutive matches entering Saturday morning's clash with Stanford, dating back to Jan. 12, 2015. Cornell has never defeated Harvard in 25 all-time meetings between the programs.
Stanford (3-2) sits in fifth despite a season-opening loss to Penn, having pushed its winning streak to three matches with a 9-0 sweep of George Washington on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Elena Wagenmans (3-1) competes from the No. 1 position ahead of All-American Casey Wong. Amita Gondi is the team's lone unbeaten competitor with a 5-0 mark from around the No. 7 position. Cornell is 11-9 against Stanford all-time after a pair of losses last year – the latter coming in the consolation semifinals of the 2018 Howe Cup.
Dartmouth (2-2, 0-1) ended a month-long hiatus with a 7-2 victory over #13 Williams on Sunday. The Big Green sits just below the projected cutoff for the eight-team Howe Cup field after falling to now-No. 8 Drexel, 5-4, in its season opener. The squad has just one senior among its regular competitors, with junior Anne Blasberg, freshman Emma McTaggart and sophomore Sandra Reiss comprising the top three. Cornell is 13-14 all-time against the Big Green, though the Big Red has won the last 11 meetings after a 7-2 triumph last year.
