Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

#5/5 Princeton Ends #4/4 Women's Hockey's 9-Game Unbeaten Streak

ITHACA, N.Y. — In its first ECAC Hockey and Ivy League games since the semester break, the No. 5/5 Cornell women's hockey team was dealt a 5-0 defeat on Friday afternoon by league-leading No. 4/4 Princeton at Lynah Rink. This marks the first loss at home on the season for the Big Red.

Maggie Connors opened the scoring, then helped set up Claire Thompson's power-play goal later in the first period to put Princeton (13-2-4, 11-0-2) in the driver's seat. Cornell (8-2-5, 6-2-1) was able to generate more offense in the second period, including a rush from defenseman Jaime Bourbonnais that required a quality save from Rachel McQuigge. After being outshot 15-6 in the first period, the Big Red outshot the Princeton 15-11 in the second period, but McQuigge had the answer each time. The Tigers' goaltender would ultimately make 26 saves to earn her second shutout of the season.

The Big Red killed off a lengthy five-on-three disadvantage for 1:36 later in the second period to stay in the game. Kendra Nealey, Lenka Serdar and Diana Buckley all had blocked shots on the same shift, then Marlène Boissonnault made a pair of saves before the teams returned to even strength and Cornell looked to push back.

After Princeton was awarded five of the game's first six power plays, Cornell had two to start off the third period — but neither produced. The Tigers largely minimized the hosts' scoring chances from there before Sarah Fillier scored on a redirection midway through the third period, then set up Connors for her second strike.

The Big Red returns to action at 3 p.m. tomorrow when it takes on Quinnipiac. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
