ITHACA, N.Y. – The women's squash team returns home for a pair of non-league matches, taking on Trinity at noon Wednesday before hosting Drexel at 6 p.m. Friday at Belkin International Squash Courts.
Cornell (1-5), currently 12th in the Dunlop College Squash Rankings, suffered three losses last weekend to No. 1 Harvard, No. 5 Stanford and No. 9 Dartmouth. The Big Red fell by the narrowest of margins, 5-4, against the Big Red with victories from freshman
Steph Tan at No. 9 and across the top three positions by senior
Nghi Nguyen (No. 1),
Lily Zelov (No. 2) and junior
Madison Miles (No. 3). Tan, who leads the team with a 4-2 record, also joined sophomore
Mimi deLisser (No. 6) as the only members of the squad to reach five games in their respective matches against Stanford.
Trinity (7-1) was ranked No. 2 in the country as of last week, but figures to slide down a spot after dropping a 5-4 decision to No. 3 Princeton last Thursday. The Bantams rebounded with an 8-1 victory over Stanford on Sunday at Harvard. Sarahi Lopez is 6-0 from the No. 1 position, and Min Jie Teh is 8-0 from the top two spots. Nadia Usenko and Akanksha Salunkhe are also a perfect 8-0 from further down the lineup. Cornell has yet to defeat Trinity in 15 all-time matches, with the latest meeting coming in January 2017.
Drexel (4-5) lays claim to the No. 8 ranking, which aligns with the final berth in the Howe Cup, the College Squash Association's top flight of the national championships. A 5-4 victory over No. 10 Dartmouth set the stage, then the Dragons moved up one spot after the Big Red fell to Virginia in early December. Drexel's winning individual records come from regulars near the top of the lineup, including 5-4 marks from Hannah Blatt (No. 2), Brooke Herring (No. 3) and Mariam Kamal (No. 4). Saturday's match will be Drexel's first of the semester.
