Women's Squash Readies For Brown, Yale This Weekend

ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's squash team turns back to Ivy League play for the home stretch of its regular season, starting with home matches against Brown at noon Saturday and Yale at noon Sunday at Belkin International Squash Courts.

Cornell (3-7, 0-3 Ivy League) remains 12th in the updated Dunlop College Squash Rankings after gaining some traction last weekend with resounding 9-0 victories Friday at George Washington and Saturday at Franklin & Marshall. Freshman Siva Subramaniam stepped right into the No. 1 position in her first collegiate matches and won both in three games. Freshmen Steph Tan (7-3, No. 9) and Lily Zelov (6-4, No. 2) continues to pace the squad in victories, and both have now won three straight alongside sophomore Mimi deLisser (No. 6) and senior Hannah Scherl (No. 8).

Brown (7-3, 0-3) sits spot above Cornell in the rankings at 11th, having now won five straight matches against lower-ranked squads – the most noteworthy being a 9-0 sweep of No. 13 Middlebury on Jan. 16. The Bears followed that up with another sweep last Saturday against No. 35 Bowdoin. Brown has been particularly successful at the bottom of the ladder, with Scarlett Bergam, Catherine Kimmel and Hannah Safford all 8-2 on the season. Cornell took the lead in the all-time series with Brown, 13-12, after a 9-0 sweep on the road last year.

Yale (7-3, 2-1), which opens the weekend against Columbia, rolled to victories on the road last weekend against George Washington, 9-0, and Virginia, 7-2. The sit tied with Penn at No. 5 in the national rankings, despite having already defeated the Quakers earlier this year. Yale's all-time record against Cornell is now 27-1, with the lone Big Red victory in the series coming on Jan. 20, 2001 in a 6-3 decision in Ithaca. The Bulldogs won last year's match, 9-0, but Madison Miles won at No. 5 for the Big Red in the meeting between the programs in 2017.
