NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The women's tennis team started play at the ECAC Indoor Championships with a 5-0 loss to top-seeded Princeton on Friday morning at Heyman-Cullman Tennis Center.
Princeton (4-2) secured the opening point with victories from the bottom two doubles positions, then cruised to wins from the top two singles spots to push its lead to 3-0.
The rest of the singles order had more luck for Cornell (2-4), but not enough to overcome Princeton. Sophomore
Ana Elhom won five games in the opening set of her match at No. 6. Freshman
Maria Adiaconitei was one game away from forcing a third set in her match at No. 3, but the match was halted with Princeton's win at No. 4.
This year's ECAC Indoor Championships are exclusively the eight Ivy League programs. Cornell will move on to play in the consolation semifinals at 8 a.m. Saturday against fifth-seeded Dartmouth, which lost its quarterfinal match-up against fourth-seeded Brown, 4-3.
The match will be broadcast on ESPN3.
