Men's Hockey Places Four On All-ECAC Hockey Teams

ITHACA, N.Y. — Four members of the Cornell men's hockey team have earned All-ECAC Hockey honors, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon. Sophomore Morgan Barron headlines the list, becoming just the third Big Red forward to earn a spot on the all-league first team in the last 32 years.

Joining Barron in collecting all-league honors were junior defenseman Yanni Kaldis, who was placed on the second team, and sophomore forward Cam Donaldson and sophomore goaltender Matthew Galajda, who earned spot on the third team. The four All-ECAC Hockey honors are the most for Cornell since the 2010 season.

Barron joins an elite list of Cornellians on the All-ECAC Hockey first team after posting better than a point per game in 22 ECAC Hockey contests. His 11 goals were tied for fifth-most in ECAC Hockey play, and he also added 12 assists for 23 points. While the offensive production is evident in the numbers, Barron demonstrated improvement in his 200-foot game this season. He has been named one of three finalists for the ECAC Hockey Best Defensive Forward, frequently contributing to the league's most successful penalty-killing numbers and winning nearly 57 percent of his faceoffs. Barron joins Matt Moulson (2005) and Riley Nash (2009) as the only other Cornell forwards to earn All-ECAC Hockey first-team honors since Joe Nieuwendyk's second selection in 1987.

Kaldis is on the All-ECAC Hockey second team for the first time, following a third-team selection in 2018 and a spot on the All-Rookie team in 2017. His 19 points in ECAC Hockey play were fourth-most in the league, and it marked the most by a Cornell defenseman in league play since Doug Murray '03 put up 21 points in the 2002-03 season. Beyond the offense, Kaldis is also among the Big Red's leaders in ice time for the season, seeing time on power plays, penalty kills and at even strength, and he was third in the league with 45 blocked shots.

Donaldson earned his first career all-league honor after posting seven goals and nine assists for 16 points in league games – often playing on the opposite wing and same power-play unit as Barron. He also boasted a plus-12 rating in 20 league games, which is second-highest among forwards.

Galajda earned All-ECAC Hockey honors for a second straight year, a first for Cornell since Ben Scrivens '10 was on the second team in 2009 and first team in 2010. The reigning winner of the ECAC Hockey Ken Dryden Goaltender of the Year Award bounced back from a tough start to the season and regained his form down the stretch. Since Jan. 1, Galajda ranks first in league games with a 1.56 goals against average and .935 save percentage.

Cornell returns to action at 4 p.m. Friday, when it takes on Brown in the semifinals of the ECAC Hockey Championships at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid.
