ITHACA, N.Y. — Freshmen Khary Pryce and Valerie Ho both won a pair of singles matches to help the women's tennis team split a pair of non-league matches Saturday at Reis Tennis Center. The Big Red opened with a 5-2 loss to Stony Brook before rebounding with a 7-0 sweep of Niagara.
 
Cornell (4-9) started the day against a Stony Brook (7-1) squad that stayed hot, winning its sixth straight match. After taking the doubles point, the Seawolves clinched the match with a trio of straight-set victories in singles.
 
Ho (No. 3) and Pryce (No. 6) accounted for the Big Red's points, both winning tiebreakers to wrap up matches in straight sets. It marked the first collegiate dual-match victory for Pryce, a freshman, and Ho's victory allowed her to take the team lead in singles wins for the season.
 
She kept that momentum into the afternoon, cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 victory against her Niagara opponent at No. 3. She's now 7-4 in singles from the middle of the order. All of the te Big Red's singles victories against the Purple Eagles came in straight sets, highlighted by a love-love win from senior Mariko Iinuma at No. 2.
 
Cornell returns to action next Saturday with another doubleheader at Reis Tennis Center, taking on Siena at 10 a.m. and Marist at 3 p.m.
