ITHACA, N.Y. — Freshmen
Maria Adiaconitei and
Sarah Campbell teamed up to win in doubles on Sunday, but the women's tennis team wrapped up its season with a 4-0 loss to Dartmouth on Sunday afternoon at Reis Tennis Center.
Adiaconitei and Campbell got the match started right for Cornell (6-16, 0-7 Ivy League), winning 6-1 in the first completed doubles match at No. 2. It was the duo's first match victory in Ivy League competition, though they were ahead in Saturday's match against Harvard when play was halted to move on to singles. Sunday produced a similar result, with Dartmouth winning comfortably at the top and bottom positions to take a 1-0 lead.
Dartmouth (4-17, 1-6) extended its lead to three points with big wins at Nos. 1 and 6 singles. The Big Red had life with Campbell one game away from clinching her match in the second set at No. 5, and freshman
Katherine Nguyen was one game away from sending her match at No. 3 to a third set. But the Big Green clinched with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4.
In addition to the match, the Big Red also held a Senior Day ceremony to commemorate the final collegiate match for Iinuma, the team's captain and lone senior.
