TOWSON, Md. - The Cornell gymnastics team opened the 2020 season with a fourth place finish at a quad meet hosted by Towson University on Friday night. The Big Red scored a 186.750 to kick off the season, finishing behind the host Tigers (194.725), William & Mary (192.150) and West Chester (191.400).
Juniors
Izzy Herczeg and
Madison Smith led the team with a second place finish in the balance beam (9.800). Returning from an injury, Smith also finished tied for fourth on floor (9.750). Senior
Maci Prescott rounded out the top five individual finishers on the day for Cornell with her vault (fourth, 9.725). The Big Red's top uneven bars gymnast was junior
Amy Shen. Coming off an injury that had her out for all of the 2019 campaign, Shen returned with an 8.975 on bars, good for 17th overall. Sophomore
Miranda Lund competed in all four events for her first all-around score of 36.450.
The Big Red returns to action when it travels to George Washington for the Lindsey Ferris Invitational, along with Penn. and Kent State, on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m.
