Washington, D.C. - The Cornell gymnastics team closed its opening weekend with a fourth place finish at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational hosted by George Washington University on Sunday afternoon. The Big Red scored a 191.375, finishing behind Kent State (195.325), the host Colonials (193.225) and Penn (192. 850).
Finishing second, behind just Kent State, the Big Red earned 48.400 points on the floor for its best finish on the meet. Junior
Madison Smith and senior
Samantha Henry tied for sixth with a 9.750. With a 9.700, junior
Claire Haklik was just .025 from finishing in the top-10 but earned the 11th-place spot.
Sophomore
Miranda Lund's 9.800 on the beam was good for third place and Cornell's only top-three finish. Smith and sophomore
Valerie Aubley earned a 9.750 to tie for eighth on the beam, closing out the Big Red's top-10 placements.
Freshman
Amy Krueger led the team on vault with a 12th-place finish (9.675), while junior
Amy Shen was Cornell's top uneven bars gymnast (14th, 9.675).
Cornell returns to action when it travels to Southern Connecticut State for a quad meet, along with Brockport and Springfield, on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m.
