NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Cornell women's gymnastics team won all but three events to lead to its first quad meet first-place on the 2020 season. The team earned first place finishes in the vault (48.125), beam (48.550) and the floor (47.650) and a second place finish on the bars (45.025).
The Big Red totaled 189.350 points, which was 2.125 points more than second-place Southern Connecticut State.
Cornell notched the top placement in all four events. Senior
Maci Prescott scored a 9.750 on the vault, junior
Amy Shen marked a 9.625 on the uneven bars, sophomore
Miranda Lund achieved a 9.800 on the beam and junior
Madison Smith finished on top on the floor with a 9.750.
In addition to the four individual titles, the Big Red placed one person in each of the second place slots. Sophomore
Claire Haklik earned a 9.700 on the floor to hold the silver to herself. Senior
Evelyn Patient tied with one other person with a 9.600 on the uneven bars. Senior
Samantha Henry and sophomore
Valerie Aubley closed the meet in a three-way tie for second; Henry registered a personal record (9.725) on the vault while Aubley recorded a 9.775 on the beam, also a personal record.
Junior
Izzy Herczeg rounded out Cornell's top-five placements with a fifth place finish on the beam (9.750).
Cornell returns to action for its first home meet against Penn on Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. in Newman Arena.
