Women's Tennis to Play Three Over February Break

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell women's tennis is set to play three matches over the February break, first hosting UConn at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21 in Reis Tennis Center, before traveling to West Virginia for a match on Sunday, Feb. 23. The Big Red will close the weekend in Harrisonburg, Va. at James Madison for an 11 a.m. match on Monday, Feb. 24.
 
Cornell has a number of bright spots in its lineup, with Maria Adiaconitei owning a 4-3 record in singles, alongside a 1-0 record at No. 1, and a 2-0 record at No. 2 singles. Fatima El Ashram is second on the team in singles victories with three. In doubles play, the duo of El Ashram and Michelle Deng is a perfect 3-0 at No. 3 doubles, while the pairing of Ashley Huang and Megan Polnet is 2-3. Huang and Polnet are 1-0 when playing at No. 1 doubles.
 
UConn (2-3) has lost three straight matches, falling to NJIT, Drexel and Temple recently. The Huskies own wins over Bryant and Seton Hall. Mireille Moreau, Doga, Selen Takunyaci and Denis Lai all own two dual wins, with Moreau now 2-2 at No. 1 singles. In doubles, Lai teams up with Luciana Rabines for a 2-1 record playing at No.2 and No. 3 doubles.
 
West Virginia (6-0) is undefeated with wins over Towson, Toledo, Buffalo, George Washington, Seton Hall and Akron. Giovanna Caputo, Anne-Sophie Courteau, Sofia Duran and Kat Lyman are all undefeated in singles action during the dual season, with Caputo leading the team at 5-0. Courteau and Lyman each have four wins on the season. Three different doubles pairs are undefeated, with Caputo and Anastasiia Bovolskaia owning a 3-0 record at No. 3. Duran and Christina Jordan are 3-0 at No. 2 and Duran owns a 2-0 record at No. 2 when playing alongside Nicole Roc.
 
James Madison (5-2) has won three-straight with wins over Penn State, Georgetown and North Carolina-Greensboro dating back to Feb. 8. Virginia Tech and ECU are the lone teams to defeat the Dukes. The Dukes will face Maryland and George Washington over the weekend prior to welcoming Cornell to the East Campus Tennis Courts on Monday.
 
Following the Big Red's next three matches, the team will take a brief hiatus before returning to the courts on Friday, March 13 for a 5:30 p.m. home match against Akron.
