KENT, Ohio - The Cornell women's gymnastics team won the bar title but it was the host, Kent State, taking home the overall meet win, Friday night.
The Golden Flashes earned 192.725 points to beat the Big Red's 190.050.
Cornell started the meet on the bars. Junior Amy Shen led the team with a 9.725, which was good for third place overall. Senior Evelyn Patient followed Shen for fifth place overall with her 9.650 bar routine. With a team 47.675, the Big Red won the title over Kent State's 47.425.
Sophomore Miranda Lund led the team in its next event, the vault. Her 9.55 earned fifth place overall. For the third rotation, the Big Red found itself on the floor where junior Madison Smith finished tied for third overall with a 9.75 and a smile on her face. Senior Samantha Henry earned a top-five finish in scoring a 9.7 on the floor.
To close out the meet, Cornell's highest finisher on the beam came from Lund. The all-around gymnast finished with a 9.725 to combine for a 37.725 and third place in the all-around.
The Big Red returns home to host Cornell's first ever Tumble and Rumble on Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. Combined with wrestling, the gymnastics team will host Cortland, Brockport and Ithaca for a quad meet.
