ITHACA, N.Y. – Three former Cornell rowers have been selected to participate in USRowing selection camps in advance of the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Tracy Eisser '12 (women's rowing), Alex Karwoski '12 (men's heavyweight rowing) and
Michael Grady '19 (men's heavyweight rowing) will all go through the selection camp process in hopes of being named to an Olympic boat in 2021. The official USRowing Olympic boats won't be announced until June 6.
An Olympian at Rio De Janeiro in 2016, Eisser is one of 24 rowers that were invited to the selection camp for the women's eight and women's four. Eisser placed fifth in the quadruple sculls at the 2016 Olympic Games, but has since competed in the eight, four and pair. In 2017, Eisser earned silver in the pair at the World Rowing Championships. As a member of the women's eight, Eisser took home gold at the 2018 World Rowing Championships.
In addition to competing in the selection camp, Eisser will compete at an upcoming World Rowing Cup race in the pair. A top-two finish at either the World Cup race in Zagreb, Croatia (April 30-May 2) or Lucerne, Switzerland (May 21-23) would give her the option of being named to the Olympic pair boat.
Also an Olympian in 2016, Karwoski was one of 18 rowers invited to the men's eight and men's four selection camp that got underway on March 17. Karwoski has been a staple of the USRowing senior national team since 2013. In the men's eight, Karwoski helped the United States to a fourth-place finish at the 2016 Olympic Games as well as silver at the 2017 World Rowing Championships. As a member of the Big Red, Grady rowed with the varsity eight for all four seasons and was named to the IRA All-Academic team in 2019.
In addition to the former student-athletes already chosen to participate in selection camps,
Kate Roach '15 is a candidate for the women's quadruple sculls selection camp that will be announced following the second 2021 U.S. Olympic Team Trials held April 12-16. Both
Finn Putnam '18 (men's heavyweight rowing) and Sorin Koszyk '20 (men's lightweight rowing) are in the mix for selection in the men's 4x.
