NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's track and field set itself up for a day two run on Saturday afternoon at the 2022 Heptagonal Indoor Championship. Cornell's 21 points put it third after day one at the Armory.
Ian Frost made the podium with a bronze in the weight throw, with his 18.89m (61-11 3/4) not far ahead of fellow scorer
Phil Coppolino (18.37m, 60-3 1/4) and
Brad Morell (18.13m, 59-5 3/4) in sixth and seventh, respectively.
Shane Racey grabbed third in the pole vault with a best mark of 17-1 (5.21m), with
Johannes Stromhaug in fifth with a 16-2 3/4 (4.95m). Charles Smith scored in the long jump in fourth with a leap of 23-7 1/4 (7.19m), while Risabh Prakash was fifth in the 3,000 meters (8:03.05).
In the prelims,
Christian Martin had the best time in the 60 hurdles (7.95), while
Billy Powers will also run in the finals (8.15).
Tomas Kersulis has qualified in the 200 (21.44) and 400 (47.31), with
Angus Dove joining him in the 400 (48.18). Big Red runners went 2-3-4 in 1,000 meter qualifying.
Brady Shute (2:25.68),
Rhys Hammond (2:23.88) and
Alex Mocarski (2:26.00) will lace them up on Sunday.
Damian Hackett will earn points in the mile after taking eighth in 4:08.59.
Sunday's very full day begins at 10:50 a.m. with the start of the men's Heptathlon and concludes at 3:45 with the awards ceremony.
