Big Red Out To Even Ivy Record When Columbia Comes To Town

STORY LINES

• The Cornell women's lacrosse team will attempt to even its Ivy League record and remain unbeaten all-time against Columbia when the Big Red hosts the Lions on Saturday, March 19 at 3 p.m. at Schoellkopf Field.
• The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Andy Malnoske on the call.
• The Big Red is looking to get back on track after dropping three of the last four in shootouts, surrendering 17.7 goals in those three defeats vs. 6.3 in its three victories.
• All tied at the half last weekend at UConn, the Big Red surrendered six consecutive goals to open the second half and the home team cruised to a 20-14 victory.
• Nine different players are averaging at least a point per game, giving Cornell a balnced, but explosive, offense averaging better than 14 goals per game and reaching double digits in all six contests.
Amanda Cramer (15-2-17), Katie Castiello (10-5-15), Sophie Ward (11-0-11), Shannon Brazier (8-3-11) and Maggie Pons (6-4-10) have all reached double figures in scoring.
• Senior goalkeeper Katie McGahan (3-3, 12.34 GAA, .488 save percentage) is averaging 10.0 saves per game and is one save from reaching 350 career stops.
• Cornell is a perfect 24-0 against Columbia all-time, including 11-0 at Schoellkopf Field.

• Graduate student Katie McGahan enters the weekend with 349 saves, one shy of 350 and 14 from matching Maggie Fava '06 for fourth all-time at Cornel (363).
• McGahan in also fourth in career wins (21) and can move as high as third with two more victories.
• The Big Red posted two of the three most draw controls in a game in school history last week — the 22 at UConn ranks No. 1 all-time, while the 21 at Princeton is No. 2.
• Junior Katie Thomas tied her own school record with 11 draw controls in the game at UConn.
• Thomas has now recorded three of the five games with at least 10 draw controls in school history.
• In just 12 games, Thomas has 69 draw controls — a mark that already ranks in the top 20 in school history.
• Dating back to 2020, Cornell has scored in double figures in seven consecutive games  — the longest streak since posting 11 straight games with at least 10 goals spanning the 2018-19 seasons.
 

NEXT UP

• The Cornell women's lacrosse team will visit Ivy foe Harvard on Saturday, March 26 at 1 p.m. at Jordan Field in Cambridge, Mass.
• Harvard leads the all-time series 24-18, though the Big Red is 18-5 since 1999.
