ITHACA, N.Y. – The women's tennis team embarks on its final matches before the start of Ivy League competition this weekend, visiting Army West Point at noon Saturday before shuttling over to New England for a 10 a.m. Sunday match against Boston University at Harvard's Murr Center.
Cornell (2-7) comes into the weekend on a two-match winning streak, most recently taking down 72nd-ranked Buffalo, 6-1, on Friday. The Big Red was particularly strong from the top of the singles order, including a 6-3, 6-2 victory for freshman
Lan Mi from the #1 position that improved her to 7-1 in dual matches. Sophomore
Lauren Stein is 3-1 in singles.
Army West Point (14-6) is coming off a three-match swing to Hawaii that included a 4-2 win over Division II Hawaii Pacific and 4-0 losses to Division I opponents Long Beach State and Hawaii. The match against the Big Red follows the Black Knights' first match of the day against Monmouth. Cooper Jackson is 9-1 from the top three spots in singles and teams with Paige Herremans for a doubles team that sports a 11-1 record. Cornell is 16-1 all-time against Army.
Boston University brings a 4-6 record into a neutral-site match against Brown on Saturday before taking on the Big Red. The Terriers' schedule has been heavily populated by Ivy League programs, including four events in the fall before a victory over Brown and losses to Yale, Dartmouth and Harvard to start dual season. BU has found more success from its bottom three singles positions (19-11) than it has from the top three (12-18), led by a 7-2 mark from Shelley Yaloz.
