Cornell Women’s Lacrosse Locker Room Project

The Big Red Department of Athletics seeks to raise $500,000 to fund the major rehabilitation of a first-rate locker room and a functional, comfortable team room for video review, team meetings and relaxation before and after activity. The team will be moving to field level of Schoellkopf Memorial Hall and will occupy the space currently occupied by the Sprint Football (SFB) team. The SFB will be moving to a brand-new facility thanks to ultra-generous Sprint alumni located near the Fischell Band Center.

The Women’s Lacrosse (WLAX) team locker room is currently located in Lynah Rink.  For competitive Division I athletics teams, the three most essential facility elements are the coaches’ offices, practice/competition venue, and the locker/ team room.

This move significantly improves these impactful elements of the WLAX program.

Typically, locker rooms are thought of as a place to change, shower and store gear. Today, locker/team  rooms play a much broader and important role in an athlete’s experience.  Mental preparation, halftime adjustments, team interaction and relaxation all are essential elements accommodated therein. The locker and team rooms are places in which teammates forge lifelong bonds through the comradery of their experience and their deep investment in the preparation for practice and competitive play.

Appropriately branded, this team space will remind players and coaches alike that they are Ivy, they are Cornell!

Cornell is very fortunate that many former athletes, parents of athletes are philanthropic. They are eager to support programs which made a significant impact on their experience or the experience of those who follow. You are invited to support this transformational project with other benefactors’ intent on moving Cornell Women’s Lacrosse forward.

On behalf of the Karin Bain Kukral `82 Head Coach of Women’s Lacrosse, Jenny Graap `86, the 2022 team, and future generations of Big Red Lacrosse players, thank you for considering a gift in support of this project.
