ITHACA, N.Y. -- After splitting Ivy League matchups this past weekend, the Cornell women's tennis team will look to end the season strong with two league matchups when it takes on No. 50 Princeton on Friday, April 22 at 2 p.m. at the Reis Tennis Center, then travels to Philadelphia to challenge Penn on Sunday, April 24 at 1 p.m.
Cornell started its three-game home stand with a convincing 7-0 win over Binghamton. Lan Mi continued her success in the No. 1 position in singles, while senior Khary Pryce earned a double bagel win in the No. 6 spot. Freshman Alexandra Savu showed grit and tenacity to rally back from a 7-5 loss in the first set to complete the sweep.
The Big Red continued its momentum on Saturday afternoon against nationally-ranked Yale, earning the doubles point thanks to the tandem of Maria Adiaconitei and Alexandra Savu at No. 2 doubles, rallying off of Lauren Stein and Jenny Wong's win at No. 1 doubles. The 59th-ranked Bulldogs went on to sweep four decisions in singles to pick up the win.
To honor its seniors, the Big Red bounced back and defeated Brown on Sunday. Cornell's singles lineup ran rampant, winning five of six matchups despite missing Lan Mi in the No. 1 spot. Senior Valerie Ho won in three sets after posting a bagel in the first to post another point from the No. 3 spot. Underclassmen Maria Adiaconitei, Jenny Wong, and Alexandra Savu sealed the victory for the Big Red to give the seniors a proper celebration.
No. 50 Princeton (9-10) is on a three-game win streak against Ivy League opponents, with its only league defeat coming from a close loss to Yale. The last time the Big Red took on the Tigers was in February during the ECAC Indoor Championships with the tilt going to Princeton, adding to its all-time tally against Cornell to increase its lead to 41-4.
Penn (14-8) is on a four-match win streak against league opponents, with its only Ivy loss coming against Friday's opponent, Princeton. Cornell hasn't meet Penn since the 2018-19 season when it lost at home, bringing the Quaker's lead in the all-time series to 33-6.
