ITHACA, N.Y. – Anthony Condo Jr., who has spent much of the past two decades working with the Cornell men's and women's polo programs, has been named The Peter B. Orthwein `68 Head Coach of Polo it was announced today.
Condo served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Big Red from 2005-18, helping the programs to four USPA national titles (men in 2005; women in 2011, 2015 and 2016). During that period, Cornell posted a 382-125-1 combined record (.753) with 24 Northeast regional titles. He served as interim head coach during the first semester of the 2018-19 season, taking responsibility for all aspects of the program. He was also on the staff of the 2010 interscholastic team out of Cornell that won a national title.
Condo is a USPA certified instructor, clinician and certified umpire, having officiated Intercollegiate and Interscholastic polo tournaments, including the USPA National Championships on several occasions. He has extensive playing experience in both outdoor and arena polo, and has most recently served as a tournament manager for the NYTS (National Youth Tournament Series) program since 2020.
In addition to his work teaching the game, Condo has a long history of horse care experience, including keeping five of his own polo ponies on his farm in Dryden.
Outside the arena, Condo has served as Facility Manager of Cornell's Polymer Characterization Facility at the Cornell Center for Materials Research since 2003, as well as an Assistant Director at the NMR Facility maintained by the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology since 2002.
Condo earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Rutgers University in 1997 with a minor in music before picking up a Master's degree in synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry from the University of Tennessee in 2001.
