KINGS POINT, N.Y. -- Cornell sailing opened the 2023-24 slate with a second straight win in as many years at the King's Point Women's Invite under the Ted Moore `71 Director of Cornell Sailing,
Lior Lavie. The women's team finished atop a leader board of seven teams, and finished third out of nine teams in the Open Invite.
The Big Red fielded two boats in the Open Invite. Division A was skippered by
Bridget Green and crewed by
Kate Moran, while division B was skippered by
Winborne Majette and crewed by Boris Bialar for races one through four, and
Sophia Pearce for races five and six. In her collegiate debut, Majette scored a race win in race number five. Division A also won it's fifth race, helping Cornell to the third place finish by finishing tied for second in the division with 29 points, just nine shy of Penn.
In the Women's Invite,
Lauren Ehnot and
Sophia Mulvania sailed in division B for races one through four, never finishing below third.
J.J. Smith and freshman
Kit Harned then subbed in, wrapping up the division with two more finishes at three in Harned's first collegiate action. The Big Red finished with 14 points in division B, the lowest among all teams this weekend In division A,
Sophia Devling and
Amelia Neumann teamed up for races one through four, with
Clara Hewson taking over crewing for Neumann in races five and six.
The Big Red returns to the water this weekend to host the Jack Boehringer `52 Memerial Regatta in Ithaca, N.Y., on Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17th. Over the same stretch, Ehnot,
Lucija Ruzevic, and
Pilar Cundey will travel to the United States Naval Academy for this year's national qualifiers.
