9/19/2023 11:30:00 AM

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell Gymnastics is looking to hit the ground running with six new faces joining the Big Red for its upcoming 2024 season.

Head coach Melanie Hall, who is entering her 30th season as a member of the Cornell staff, says each addition will help fill the void left by last year's graduating seniors.

"We have an extremely talented group of freshmen that should make an immediate impact this season. These six gymnasts bring regional and national experience that will increase our depth in all four events."

Macy Armstrong
Fr. | All-Around | 5-4 | Cary, N.C (Green Hope HS) | Team Attraction Gymnastics
Armstrong was a 2021 Level 10 Easterns Qualifier while competing for Team Attraction Gymnastics and attending Green Hope HS. She was a four-time regional qualifier and placed 13th in the all-around at the 2022 regionals as a senior captain.

Coaches Comments
"Macy is a fast gymnast with a beautiful long line that appeals to the eye and makes her skills shine. Vault and bars are where Macy can make an immediate impact, but she has the potential to break into the lineup on all four events and will be great to watch as we approach the season."

Avery Byun
Fr. | All-Around | 5-3 | Rancho Mission Viejo, Calif. (Tesoro HS) | Wildfire Gymnastics
Byun was the Level 10 SoCal state champion for Wildfire Gymnastics. She took seventh in the all-around at the 2023 Level 10 Junior Olympic Nationals (38.325) and placed in the top 10 at Level 10 JO Nationals on vault, beam, and floor exercise. Byun also finished 14th in the all-around at the 2022 regionals.

Coaches Comments
"Avery is a talented all-arounder who could impact all four events but will immediately push into the top of the vault lineup. She is a strong and explosive gymnast excelling in both her gymnastics and dance performance, and we are excited to see how she will continue to develop throughout the year."

Victoria McMillan
Fr. | All-Around | 5-3 | San Jose, Calif. (Notre Dame HS) | West Valley Gymnastics School
McMillan was a two-time Level 10 national qualifier for West Valley Gymnastics School, placing third in the all-around and fifth on vault at nationals in 2022. She also competed at the 2023 Regional Championships, placing fifth on vault, eighth on beam, and eighth in the all-around and was the NorCal State beam champion while recording top six finishes on floor exercise (fourth), vault (fifth), bars (sixth), and the all-around (fourth).

Coaches Comments
"Victoria is an explosive gymnast who could immediately help us on vault, beam, and floor. Her power is a natural gift, and it will be great to showcase in those lineups. She also has the potential to be a solid competitor on bars, and we will be working this fall to help guide her in her skill selection for her to have a great shot at making the lineup."

Josie Moylan
Fr. | All-Around | 5-5 | Nonesuch, Ky. (Woodford County HS) | Agility Gymnastics Academy
Moylan was named the 2023 Kentucky USAG Athlete of the Year while competing for Agility Gymnastics Academy. She was a two-time Level 10 state bars champion (2022, 23), claimed the 2023 Level 10 state beam title, and was a three-time national qualifier.

Coaches Comments
"Josie is a strong performer and will compete for spots in the bar, beam, and floor lineups. She is an extremely positive presence in the gym and is working on new skills this fall that should make her a viable candidate for all three events. We are excited to see if she can transition those upgrades into her competition routines, which can make her highly competitive for a spot in those lineups."

Addy Rothstein
Fr. | All-Around | 5-1 | New York, N.Y. (Trevor Day School) | Gotham Gymnastics
Rothstein was a four-time Level 10 Junior Olympic/DP National qualifier for Gotham Gymnastics. She took first on bars and second in the all-around in the 2022 and 2023 Level 10 Regional Championships and was first on floor exercise in the 2019 and 2021 Level 10 Regional Championships. Rothstein also won the club's leadership award in 2023.

Coaches Comments
"Addy is a powerhouse gymnast who can immediately help us on all four events, especially vault, bars, and floor. She is dynamic and fast, which makes her fun to watch. Enhancing her dance, showmanship, and some minor adjustments to technique this fall could be one of our top all-around gymnasts."

Natalia Tehrani
Fr. | All-Around | 5-5 | Fremont, Calif. (Irvington HS) | Airborne Gymnastics
Tehrani was a Level 10 qualifier while competing for Airborne Gymnastics. Was a national qualifier and placed in the top 10 on bars and floor, and 4th on beam and all-around at Regionals in 2023. Placed second in the all-around and beam and third on the floor exercise at the 2022 Level 10 state meet. Tehrani also won the Level 9 Western National All-around title in 2021 and the Level 9 regional vault, bars, and all-around titles.

Coaches Comments
"Natalia is a beautiful and graceful gymnast who shines on beam and floor, but we are excited to see her continue to develop on bars and vault. With a few upgrades to her skill set in the coming months, she also has the potential to be a competitive all-arounder for the Big Red."

Cornell will compete in 12 meets this season, starting with the Lindsey Ferris Invitational hosted by George Washington on Sunday, Jan. 14. The Big Red will also hit the road for five competitions throughout the winter hosted by Towson (Jan. 27-28), Penn (Feb. 4), LIU (Feb. 18), the Ivy Classic (Feb. 25), Rutgers (March 2) and West Chester (March 15).
