#9 Big Red Opens Up ECAC Hockey Play at Home Against Union, RPI

ITHACA, N.Y. - The No. 9-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team will open up ECAC Hockey play on Friday, November 1st to face the Union Garnet Chargers at Lynah Rink. The Big Red will close out the home-weekend series against the RPI Engineers on Saturday, November 2nd.

Ice Breaker Tournament Recap
Game One: 
The no. 11-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the no. 12-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions 2-0 on Friday afternoon at the Schottenstein Center. The Big Red improved to 1-1-1 on the year, while the Nittany Lions dropped to 6-3-0

Lily Delianedis and Rose Dwyer (empty-net) registered the Big Red goals in the contest. Ashley Messier was credited for the helper on Delianedis' goal. Annelies Bergmann earned her first shutout of the season, collecting 37 saves in the game.

Game Two:
The Cornell women's ice hockey team fell to the no. 2-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes in the Icebreaker Tournament Championship 7-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Schottenstein Center. The Big Red dropped to 1-2-1, white the Buckeyes improved to 9-2-2.

Katie ChanAvi Adam, and Karel Prefontaine registered Big Red goals in the game. Alyssa Regalado (two), Ashley Messier (two), and Mckenna Van Gelder were credited with helpers in the contest. Annelies Bergmann collected 18 saves on the day.

The Last Time Out vs Union and RPI
Union:
The no. 6-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the Union Garnet Chargers 3-1 at Lynah Rink on Saturday evening. The Big Red clinched a first-round bye and home-ice for the quarterfinals of the ECAC Hockey tournament.

Grace DwyerKaitlin Jockims, and Mckenna Van Gelder scored the Big Red goals in the contest. Van Gelder, Georgia Schiff (two), and Ashley Messier collected helpers. Deanna Fraser registered 13 saves on the evening.

RPI:
The no. 6-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated Rensselaer 1-0 in overtime on Friday night at Lynah Rink.

Lily Delianedis registered the Big Red goal in the overtime period. Karel Prefontaine and Rory Guilday assisted the Cornell game-winning goal. Annelies Bergmann collected 19 saves and her third shutout of the season.

Big Red Players To Watch
Annelies Bergmann has been strong in net so far this season, saving 115 shots. Bergmann has held opponents scoreless in two games, coming in a tie versus Mercyhurst and a shutout victory against Penn State.

Lily Delianedis, an All-ECAC Preseason selection, registered 10 shots-on-net in the series against Mercyhurst. Delianedis cashed-in at the Ice Break Tournament, scoring the game-winning goal against Penn State 

Captain and defense-woman Ashley Messier has been a catalyst for the Big Red so far this season. She currently leads the team in points, registering three points on three assists. Messier's impact on the defensive end is felt, as she also leads Cornell in blocked shots.

Puck drop between the Big Red and the Garnet Chargers is slated for 3:00 p.m. on Friday at Lynah Rink. The contest against the Engineers is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at Lynah Rink. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+
