AKRON, Ohio. - The Cornell men's swimming and diving team registered 2472 points en route to a first-place at the 2024 Zippy Invitational.
"It was a fantastic meet. Our guys set countless best-times, broke six school records and had a few nationally-ranked performances. Day One
A Big Red squad of
Jack Banks,
Jacques Grove,
Daniel Simoes, and
Sebastian Wolff established a Cornell (6:26.12) record in the 800 free relay. The school-record 800 freestyle relay effort by Banks, Grove, Simoes, and Wolff was enough to earn a first-place finish.
Pietro Ubertalli,
Julian Correa, Alex Miao, and
Dominic Edwards followed in second-place with a time of 6:26.76. The Big Red also competed in the 200 medley relay, with Ubertalli, Wolff,
Andrew Lin, and
Josh Toothman earning a third-place nod (1:27.51).
Day Two
Grove earned first-place in the 500 freestyle with his time of 4:24.11.
Owen Dankert (4:32.68) and
Alan Shaaban (4:32.79) also clinched top-five finishes.
Wolff (1:45.75),
Ubertalli (1:45.78), and
Edwards (1:47.62) swept the top-three of the 200 IM.
Soodong Kim (second - 338.50), Max Reis Trovillion (fourth - 286.05), and
Christopher Winn (fifth - 268.20) each landed in the top-five on the three meter dive.
Toothman was the highest Big Red finisher in the 50 freestyle, producing a fifth-place time of 19.94.
Blake Conway, Wolff, Grove, and Edwards concluded the day with a first-place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:09.37).
Day Three
Edwards claimed a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle, producing a time of 1:36.20 in the finals.
Ubertalli collected a victory in the 100 backstroke with his time of 46.64 in the finals.

Joseph Gurski (second - 47.12 seconds) and
Grove (third - 47.60 seconds) earned top-three spots respectively.
Haihan Xu (second - 3:56.68) and
Dankert (third - 3:57.74) also earned top-three results, coming in the 400 IM.
Connor Brown (53.40 seconds) and
Wolff (53.42 seconds) finished second and third respectively in the 100 breastroke.
Toothman, Wolff, Edwards, and
Simoes capped day three with a third-place 200 freestyle relay effort of 1:18.95.
Day Four
Alan Shaaban (15:34.26) and Dankert (15:51.15) earned first- and third-place results respectively in the 1650 freestyle. Ubertalli (1:40.94) and Conway (1:42.01) took the top-two spots in the 200 backstroke. Edwards clinched a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle with his time of 43.86 seconds.
Wolff claimed first-place in the 200 breastroke (1:56.81). Xu placed third in the same event (1:57.56). Gurski (1:47.68) was the top-finisher in the 200 butterfly, with Grove (1:45.13) finishing as the runner-up. Edwards, Wolff,
Jack Banks, and Grove closed the day out with a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.
