Packer, Bonnet, Hilliard Earn Podium Finishes, Big Red Stands Fifth After Day One of Heps

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Cornell women's track and field team finishes day one at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships in fifth-place with nine points. 10 personal bests were captured over the course of the first day. Maddie Packer, Rachel Bonnet, and Avery Hilliard were the Big Red point-scorers after finding themselves on the podium in their respective events.

Strong Effort In The Finals
Hilliard (pole vault), Quincy Hansen (pole vault), Noelle Elkinton (weight throw), Abby Nonnenberg (weight throw), Charli Stewart (weight throw), Meilee Kry (long jump), Lauren Jones (long jump), Tia Taylor (long jump), Skyy Johnson (long jump), and Mairead Clas (3000-meter run) competed in finals events on day one of Heps.

Hilliard put up a strong effort, but failed to clear the four-meter mark resulting in a sixth-place finish. The standout first-year earned one point on the team score for the Big Red. 

Team Points and PRs in The Multis
Packer and Bonnet competed in the Heptathlon on Saturday, both earning personal bests and tacking on eight points for Cornell in the team score.

Packer registered 3530 points, finishing in third-place. Packer's best finish was in the long jump, earning first as she leaped 5.59 meters. Her placements in the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, and shot put were all sixth, and her 800-meter run ranking was slotted eighth.

Bonnet registered 3409 points, finishing in fifth-place. Bonnet finished fifth in the in the shot put and 800-meter run, sixth in the high jump, and ninth in the 60-meter hurdles and long jump.

Trials, Eight Advance To The Finals
Aniyah Walters (60-meter hurdles), Augustine Haquet (mile), Lauren Jones (60-meter dash), Imani Reid (60- and 200-meter dash), Brianna Beckham (60- and 200-meter dash), Glenn Parker (60-meter dash), Delaney Benedict (400-meter dash), Reyne Rodrigues (400-meter dash), Justine Hounsell (60-meter hurdles), Riley Ebersole (, Elise Sawyer, Katja Jackson (800-meter run), Gwen Parks (1000-meter run), Bridget Forbes (1000-meter run) laced up for trials on day one of the Heptagonal Championships.

Haquet came second in the mile opening round, clinching her spot in the finals with a time of 4:49.28. Jones placed second in her heat with a 7.47-second mark which advanced her to the 60-meter finals. Walters earned her qualification by placing fifth among clinchers in the 60-meter hurdles, with a time of 8.61 seconds. Benedict (55.97 seconds) and Rodrigues (57.11 seconds) were the two Big Red sprinters who crossed the tape in time to clinch a 400-meter dash finals berth. Sawyer took sixth-overall (1:16.40) in the qualifiers stage which served as her ticket to the 500-meter championship round. Parks found her way into the finals with a mark of 2:50.56 in the 1000-meter run qualifier round. Reid qualified for the 200-meter dash finals, crossing the tape in 24.67 seconds.

Next Up
The Cornell women's track and field team will return to competition tomorrow for the final day of the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships. Events are slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. at Gordon Indoor Complex.
