LAST TIME OUT: BIG RED JUMPS OUT EARLY, CAN'T FIND LATE GOAL IN BATTLE WITH PRINCETON
The Big Red jumped out to a 4-1 lead but could not sustain the momentum in a back-and-forth affair, losing to Princeton, 13-12, on a wet and rainy Saturday afternoon from New Jersey. Cornell, who held the advantage in shots (36-30) and shots on goal (21-16), fell to its Ivy League rivals for the ninth consecutive time.

Senior midfielder Caitlin Slaminko was one of six Big Red athletes with multi-point outings, as the captain secured her sixth career hat trick and a game-high six draw controls. Josie Vogel continued her solid junior campaign by extending her goal and point streak to 21 consecutive contests with two goals and an assist, and freshman Dylan Madigan netted her first two goals of her Big Red career. Kylie Gelabert (one goal, three assists), Ellie Bergin (two goals), and Ella Wilmot (career-high three assists) closed the top performers for Cornell.

Cornell found a spark early in the soaking rain, outshooting the Tigers 14-4, holding them to just one shot on goal, and going 6-6 in the draw circle. Four of those shots found the back of the net, with two coming from Slaminko, putting the Big Red up by three after one. Princeton flipped the script in the second, outscoring the Big Red 5-1, capped off by a 4-0 run over nearly 12 minutes to take a 6-5 lead heading into the locker room. The Big Red mustered just six shots in the second stanza.

Cornell's offense came back to life early in the third, as Gelabert scored her lone goal off a feed from Wilmot to tie things up at six just 31 seconds into the second half. Gelabert's goal started a cat-and-mouse game between the two teams, trading goals back and forth until Princeton took a 10-8 lead with two minutes to go in the third. Cornell weathered the storm with Madigan and Vogel scoring two goals 43 seconds apart to set up a high-stakes final 15 minutes. The back-and-forth trend continued until Princeton went up two with 4:43 to go, putting the pressure back on Cornell. The Big Red would get within one with 58 seconds left on Bergin's second of the day and won the preceding draw control to have the final chance to send the game into overtime. But the Tigers blocked Vogel's shot attempt and ran out the final 15 seconds to earn the win.

INSIDER: COLGATE
- Colgate comes into Tuesday's contest at 1-8 overall and 1-2 in the Patriot League. The Raiders will look to build off some momentum after snapping its eight-game losing streak to open the season with a 13-7 win over American University on Saturday from the nation's capital.
- The Raiders were led by junior Lauren Thompson, who secured her first hat trick of the season in the first half and finished with four goals on six shot attempts off the bench. Classmate Kait Henning also had three goals on the afternoon, and freshman goalie Lauren Solis saved 14 shots to earn her first collegiate win and fifth game with ten or more stops this season.
- Colgate and American went back and forth over the first two quarters and the opening five minutes of the second half with the score tied at five. But the Raiders took firm control in the third, with a free-position goal by Caroline Panzirer sparking a 5-0 run that closed the quarter and allowed Colgate the breathing room it needed to take home the victory.
- Kait Henning and Lucy Licata lead the charging Raiders offense with 14 goals each this season. Caroline Panzirer has also shared the wealth in the offensive end with a team-high 13 assists handed out.
- Licata has also held down the fort in the draw circle with a team-high 36 wins. As a unit, the Raiders are neat the middle of the pack in the Patriot League with 12.88 draw controls per game this season.
- First-year goalie Lauren Solis has been tested in her first season for the Raiders, making 93 total saves and having a 15.20 GAA. She also leads the team and is third in the Patriot League with 31 ground balls scooped up.
- Colgate's offense has struggled to find the back of the net this season, scoring 8.89 goals per game. That metric is 103th in the country. Its defense has also been shaky, giving up the most goals per game in the Patriot League (16.50).
- Ground balls have not been a friend of the Raiders this season, scooping up the least amount in its conference and ranked 119th at the Division I level at 11.38 per game.
- One area Colgate excels is not committing fouls. The Raiders are fourth in the Patriot League with 12.25 committed per contest.
- Kathy Taylor is in her fifth season as head coach of the Raiders. Taylor is 19-41 overall at Colgate and arrived in Hamilton after a 97-12 record over five seasons at then-Division II Le Moyne College (2015-2019). The Dolphins won three regular-season NE 10 Championships and the 2018 NCAA DII Women's Lacrosse Championship with a 16-11 win over Florida Southern under Taylor's watch.

FORMER TEAMMATES SQUARE OFF ON SIDELINES
It will be a battle of former teammates on each sideline as Kathy Taylor and Jenny Graap will square off for the fifth time as head coaches of the Raiders and the Big Red. Taylor and Graap were teammates at Cornell University for two seasons (1983-84), helping lead the Big Red to a 14-14 record. Taylor had a final season to remember for Cornell, becoming the first player in program history to earn First Team All-Ivy accolades after posting 36 goals and 13 assists in 1984. As coaches of their respective programs, Graap holds the head-to-head advantage with a 4-1 mark.
