#6 Big Red Heads To ECAC Championship Weekend, Meets #4 Colgate In The Semifinals

HAMILTON, N.Y. -The no. 6-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team will travel to Hamilton N.Y. for ECAC Hockey Championship Weekend. The Big Red are set to meet the no. 4-ranked Colgate Raiders on Friday, Mar. 8. The winner of that match up will take on the winner of no. 3 Clarkson and no. 7 St.Lawrence in the ECAC Hockey Championship on Saturday, Mar. 9.

Big Red and the Raiders Season Rewind
First Meeting
In the first match up this year between the squads, the no. 8-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team dropped an ECAC Hockey contest to no. 5-ranked Colgate at Lynah Rink.

Kaitlin Jockims (short-handed), Karel Prefontaine (unassisted), and Lily Delianedis scored Big Red goals on the night. Gabbie Rud collected the lone helper for Cornell in the game.

Second Meeting
The second time around, the no. 8-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team fell 3-0 to the no. 5-ranked Colgate Raiders at Class of 1965 Arena. The Big Red dropped to 13-5-1 on the season, while the Raiders improved to 20-3-1.

The ECAC Hockey Playoffs Series
The Big Red leads the all-time ECAC Hockey playoff series with Quinnipiac, 6-3. These programs have met once in the ECAC Hockey Tournament semifinals (2017-18) with Colgate taking a 5-4 barn-burner victory over the Big Red.

Opponents Breakdown
Colgate will enter the weekend with a 29-6-1 record overall. The Raiders are coming off of a dominant series in the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals Round against the Brown Bears where the Raiders swept the series winning both games by a 5-1 score.

Danielle Serdachny (57- 21g, 36a), Kaltounkova (53- 25g, 28a), Elyssa Biederman (46- 15g, 31a), and Nina Brick (39- 18g, 21a) are at the top of Colgate's leader board in points. Osborne has played in 26 games between the pipes, registering 428 saves and a .939 save percentage.

Big Red 2024 Ivy League Dominance
Cornell earned a 9-1 record against Ivy opponents, outscoring those teams 53-16. Cornell closed out the regular season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over defending Ivy champion Yale at Ingalls Rink to claim its 16th title in program history.

The Big Red swept Ivy League major awards and had eight Cornellians named to All-Ivy teams. Izzy Daniel was tabbed Player of The Year, Annelies Bergmann was named Rookie of The Year, and Everett Family Head Coach of Women's Ice Hockey Doug Derraugh was selected as Coach of The Year. Daniel, Grace Dwyer, and Rory Guilday were deemed First-Team All-Ivy. Lily Delianedis, Karel Prefontaine, and Ashley Messier earned Second-Team All-Ivy honors. Deanna Fraser was recognized for her outstanding effort on and off the ice, as she was the Cornell recipient of Academic All-Ivy honors

High-Octane Big Red
Daniel ranks second in the nation in assists per game with 1.13, ninth in goals per game with .65 per contest, and second in points per game with 1.77. Since joining the top-line as left-wing in place of sidelined skater Chan, first-year forward Prefontaine has registered a handful of points of her own, increasing her total to 22 points on 11 goals and 11 assists.. Delianedis has been the anchor to those explosive wingers, collecting 342 wins during her face off duties, and lighting the lamp 16 times while dishing 17 helpers.

Kaitlin Jockims has emerged as an X-Factor for the Big Red, scoring 12 goals on the season along with 11 assists. Jockims is netting the puck with precision, boasting a 26.1% shot percentage. She is responsible for three short-handed goals on the year, and has four game-winning goals which is tied for first on the team with Delianedis.

Goalies By Committee
Annelies Bergmann has protected the Big Red net in 26 games, earning 579 saves (high - 43, three shutouts) with a .929 save percentage. Deanna Fraser has started six games, earning 84 saves (high - 23) with a .903 save percentage to go along with a shutout victory over Syracuse.

Patty Kaz Nominee
Daniel exploded for a six-point weekend in the opener versus no. 13 Penn State, registering her points on one goal and five assists. She eclipsed her 100th-career point in the process of sweeping the Nittany Lions. In dramatic fashion, Daniel would capture the 150-point mark, on an overtime game-winning goal against Brown to push the Big Red closer to its 16th Ivy League title.

She now sits with 154 points on the season, which slots her fifth all-time in program history, and her season total of 55 points has her fifth in program history as well. In other Izzy Daniel record-breaking news, the Minnesota native ranks third all-time in career assists (104), and is three helpers away from tying the single-season assist record, where she is currently tied for third with 35.

Daniel has scored at least one point in 25 out of 31 games this year, and two or more points in 18 games. She has earned ECAC Hockey Player of The Week three times this year, as well as ECAC Hockey Player of the Month. As far as post-season awards go, Daniel captured Ivy League Player of The Year Honors along with a first-team selection. With ECAC Hockey Award announcements pending, Daniel is a sure-fire candidate for more hardware.
