NORFOLK, Va. -- Windy days out in Virginia provided additional obstacles for Cornell sailing to navigate at the MAISA Open Team Race/Prosser Trophy on Saturday, April 6, and Sunday, April 12. Despite the high gusts, the Big Red still earned a fifth-place finish in the races.
Skippers
J.J. Smith,
Pilar Cundey,
Sophia Devling, and
Winborne Majette partnered with crews Boris Bialer,
Kit Harned,
Kate Moran,
Sophia Mulvania, and
Sophia Pearce to win five different races. In Round 1, Cornell bested Old Dominion, Hobart and William Smith, and Fordham. In Round 2, Cornell topped Old Dominion and Penn. The Quakers ended the weekend just one race ahead of the Big Red, earning fewer points in head-to-head races.
Cornell is back to the waters next weekend for two different events. Cornell will send a travel party to Throggs Neck, N.Y. to take on the Truxton Umsted Open Fleet race and to St. Mary's City, Md. to take on the MAISA Women's Team Racing championships. Action for both is set to go down on Saturday, April 13, and continue through Sunday, April 14.
