CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Cornell sailing fell just short of advancing to the Open Dinghy National Championship, wrapping up a 12th-place finish in the Western Open National Semi-Finals. The Big Red needed a ninth-place outing to advance. With the Big Red's weekend ending earlier than hoped, Cornell wraps up the 2023-24 season with some historical honors and finishes, including the program's first-ever finalist for National Sailor of the Year in junior Bridget Green.

Across two divisions on the Charles River, Cornell finished 12th overall in both for a combined 372 points.

In the A Division, Green and sophomore Sophia Devling split time as skippers while sophomore Sophia Mulvania, freshman Kit Harned, and sophomore Sophia Pearce combined efforts as the crew. The group totaled 180 points and held the tiebreaker over Boston University to secure the finish ahead of the Terriers. The group was just 24 points away from earning the ninth-place finish.

In the B Division, freshman Winborne Majette skippered all 17 races while junior Amelia Neumann, sophomore Boris Bialer, and freshman Kate Moran crewed the boats for a 192-point finish, good for 12th overall.
