EUGENE, Ore. - Big Red thrower
Brad Morell and mid-distance runner
Damian Hackett concluded the 2024 outdoor campaign with All-American Honorable Mention following NCAA Championship performances at Hayward Field on Wednesday evening. This marked the third consecutive season that the Big Red men had at least one representative in the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Morell had a tough outcome on the day due to a few miscues. He would hit the cage on his first throw, collect a sector foul on the second, and skipped the concrete on throw three. Morell concluded a strong season and career for the Big Red being named All-American Honorable Mention.
"Obviously not the outcome we were working for, but super proud of Brad's effort today. He came in confident and sure in his technique, but just couldn't put the whole throw together. Brad accomplished a lot of  our goals for this season, making tremendous strides in his throws and as a leader of our program. He ends his career as a HEPS champion, multiple time All-Ivy Performer and top 10 in Cornell history in the shot put, second in hammer, weight, and discus, and will walk away as one of the greatest throwers in Cornell's history", Coach
Kevin Phipps said following Morell's efforts at the NCAA Championships..
After leading the pack for over two minutes, Hackett would fall behind later in the race to take 11th-place in his semi-finals heat and 23rd-place overall (3:43.34). Hackett's performances this post-season have garnered him All-American Honorable Mention.

Mike Henderson, Alan B. '53 and Elizabeth Heekin Harris Head Coach of Women's Track & Field/Men's and Women's Cross Country, had some words to say about Hackett's season. "I'm very proud of the season Damian put together. Two individual Heps titles, anchoring a relay to a Heps title, setting a few school records and getting to the final round at NCAA's are always goals. So we are excited he checked all those off the list. Unfortunately, it wasn't the perfect race for him today, and against one of the deepest 1500 fields in many years  the margin of error was very slim. The great thing is the experience will help him be even better and more prepared for next year".
