ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell sailing team will head into the spring 2025 season in an elevated position - its highest national rankings in program history in both the Open and Women's competitions.
Cornell's No. 16 spot in the Open is the highest in the nation, while the women remained at No. 3. Both represent a high water mark for Big Red sailing and comes on the heels of a very successful fall campaign. Cornell won four regattas, including the MAISA Women's Fall Dinghy - its fourth conference title since 2018. Freshman
Gilda Dondona won the conference's singlehanded title and finished second at nationals, the highest ever finish by a Big Red sailor.
The poll is voted on by a panel of college coaches and considers all intercollegiate regattas, including match race and singlehanded championships, Showcase finals and semifinal and conference championships. Stanford is atop both polls, with the Big Red women only behind the Cardinal and second-ranked Yale.
The Big Red hits the water for its first competition on March 1.
