ECAC Hockey Regular-Season Title On The Horizon For #4 Big Red As Brown, Yale Looms

ITHACA, N.Y. - The no. 4-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team gets set for an ECAC Hockey battle against Brown and Yale on senior weekend. The Big Red will have its sights set on clinching the ECAC Hockey regular-season crown for the seventh time in program history.

The Stakes
The no. 4-ranked Big Red could clinch the ECAC Hockey regular-season crown with an equal or better result against Brown than no. 5 Colgate has against Yale on Friday.

Rewind vs RPI/Union
vs RPI
The no. 4-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the Renssealaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers 4-0 on Friday night at Houston Field House. The Big Red improved to 18-4-4, while the Engineers dropped to 12-16-3.

Piper GroberAshley Messier (power-play), and Georgia Schiff registered Big Red goals in the contest. Grace Dwyer (two), Gabbie RudAlyssa Regalado, Grober, and Mckenna Van Gelder were credited with assists. Annelies Bergmann collected 10 saves on the night.

vs Union
The no. 4-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the Union Garnet Chargers 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink. The Big Red improved to 19-4-4, while the Garnet Chargers dropped to 12-19-1 on the season. With the victory, Cornell only needs an equal result (or better) with second-place Colgate on Friday to clinch the ECAC Hockey regular-season title.

Mckenna Van Gelder and Karel Prefontaine registered Big Red goals in the contest. Gabbie Rud was credited for the lone assist in the game. Annelies Bergmann made 25 saves on the afternoon.

Last Time Out vs Yale/Brown
vs Yale:
The Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the Yale Bulldogs 2-0 on Friday night at Ingalls Rink.

Kaitlin Jockims and Avi Adam registered Big Red goals in the contest. Gabbie Rud, Avar Lindzi, Mckenna Van Gelder, and Ashley MessierAnnelies Bergmann stopped 33 Bulldog-opportunities on the night.

vs Brown
The Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the no. 14-ranked Brown Bears 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium.

Lily Delianedis and Katie Chan registered the Big Red goals in the game. Rose DwyerBeatrice Perron-Roy, and Alyssa Regalado were credited with helpers. Cornell goaltender Annelies Bergmann finished the contest with 18 saves.

Big Red Players To Watch
Annelies Bergmann has proven to be one of the top goaltenders in the nation, saving 579 shots (.940). Bergmann has held opponents scoreless in eight games, coming in a tie versus Mercyhurst and seven shutout victories against Penn State, RPI, Dartmouth, Yale, Clarkson, and St. Lawrence.

The Big Red's scoring production has been spread out, as 12 players currently have double digit points coming into the weekend.  Avi Adam has been a reliable playmaker and leads the way for Cornell in that regard. She is second on the team in assists with with 16. Her 10 goals on the year pushes her point-total to 26 which leads the team.

Lindzi Avar has had a seamless adjustment to the college game. Avar currently leads the team with 13 goals to go along with five assists. She has been named ECAC Hockey Rookie of The Week three times this season.

Captain and defense-woman Ashley Messier has been a model of consistency for the Big Red so far this season. Messier has 13 assists to go along with six goals on the year. Messier's impact on the defensive end is felt, as she has 33 blocked shots on the year to pair with a +17.

Puck drop between the Big Red and the Bears is slated for 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14 at Lynah Rink. The contest between Cornell and Yale is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday Feb. 8 at Lynah Rink. Games action will be broadcast on ESPN+.
