ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell women's tennis team (5-2) will put its four-match win streak on the line this weekend when it travels to suburban Chicago for a pair of matches against Northern Illinois (10-2) and DePaul (6-5, 2-0 Big East).
Cornell will first face off against the Huskies at 4 p.m. ET (3 p.m. CT) in DeKalb, Ill., before heading to DePaul for a 1:30 p.m. ET (12:30 p.m. CT) start. Both matches can be streamed live on Track.Tennis.
LAST TIME OUT
Cornell increased its win streak to four games with a 6-1 victory over Siena last Sunday at the Reis Tennis Center.
The Big Red opened the match strong, winning the first two doubles matches as
Tanya Fan and
Alexandra Savu cruised to a 6-0 victory while
Jenny Wong and
Victoria Zhao prevailed by a 6-3 score.
Cornell took the first five singles matches to ensure the Big Red's victory.
Andrea Martinez De Los Rios registered consecutive 6-0 victories before
Michelle Ryndin only dropped three games, 6-1, 6-2. Savu,
Seychelle Balog, and Zhao also posted straight-game victories for the Big Red.
SCOUTING NORTHERN ILLINOIS
Northern Illinois enters this weekend riding a five-match win streak and boasting a 10-2 overall record.
After falling to Wisconsin, 6-1, on Jan. 31, the Huskies have posted victories over Western Illinois (7-0), Valparaiso (4-0), Division II Lewis (6-1), South Dakota (4-3), and Division II Sioux Falls (7-0).
Nataly Ninova has a team-high 10 victories for the Huskies this year, posting an 8-1 mark at No. 3 singles. Maria Dzemeshkevich (8-2) ranks second on the team in wins. Lucia Yecora (7-0) is riding a seven-match win streak entering this weekend.
Cornell and Northern Illinois are meeting for the first time in program history on Saturday afternoon.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
DePaul enters the weekend with a 6-5 overall record and a 2-0 mark in Big East play. The Blue Demons are coming off victories against Omaha (7-0) and Creighton (6-1) last weekend, which snapped a three-game losing streak.
Sasha Stula has six victories in dual matches this season, one ahead of Eva Goncharov (5-3) and Eleanor Nobbs (5-5) for the team lead.
Cornell and DePaul will also meet on Sunday for the first time in program history.
