Top-Seeded Big Red To Host Colgate, St. Lawrence, and Clarkson For ECAC Hockey Championship Weekend

ITHACA, N.Y. - The no. 3-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team gets set to host no. 9 Clarkson, no. 5 Colgate, and no. 7 St. Lawrence for ECAC Hockey Championship Weekend at Lynah Rink. The Big Red will face off with the Clarkson Golden Knights on Friday, March 7 at 3:00 p.m. in the semifinals. The winner will move on to Championship Saturday to face the winner of semifinal two.

ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals vs Union Rewind
Game One
The no. 3-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey defeated the Union Garnet Chargers 3-0 in game one of the ECAC Hockey quarterfinals on Friday night at Lynah Rink. The Big Red improved to 21-4-5, while the Garnet Chargers dropped to 13-22-1.

Karel Prefontaine (two) and Georgia Schiff registered Big Red goals in the contest. Delaney Fleming (two), Lil Delianedis (two), and Grace Dwyer were credited with assists in the game. Annelies Bergmann collected 14 saves on the night.

Game Two
The no. 3 Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the Union Garnet Chargers 3-2 in game two of the ECAC Hockey quarterfinals round on Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink. The Big Red improved to 22-4-5 on the season, while the Garnet Chargers concluded its season with a 13-23-1 record. With the victory, Cornell advanced to the ECAC Hockey semifinal game, where it will host the lowest-seed remaining following the quarterfinals.

Grace DwyerKarel Prefontaine, and Gabbie Rud registered Big Red goals in the contest. Katie ChanMckenna Van Gelder (two), Avi Adam, and Dwyer were credited with assists in the game. Annelies Bergmann made 17 saves on the afternoon.

2024-25 Season Series vs Clarkson
The Cornell women's ice hockey team swept the Clarkson Golden Knights during the regular-season, outscoring the North Country foe 5-1 in the two matchups.

The Big Redtook the road in its first game against the Golden Knights and took care of business defeating Clarkson 3-0 at Cheel Arena.

During Cornell's second contest against Clarkson, the the tight game came down to a Gabbie Rud game-winner in the final six minutes of play as the Big Red would hold off the Golden Knights 2-1 at Lynah Rink.

Big Red Players To Watch
Annelies Bergmann has proven to be one of the top goaltenders in the nation, saving 647 shots (.939). Bergmann has held opponents scoreless in nine games, coming in a tie versus Mercyhurst and eight shutout victories against Penn State, RPI, Dartmouth, Yale, Clarkson, St. Lawrence, and Union. Her nine shutouts lead all goaltenders in the nation. In a conference that is star-studded with great goal-tending, Bergmann stands tall among them all earning ECAC Hockey Goaltender of The Year, becoming the second Cornellian in program history to earn the distinction.

The Big Red's scoring production has been spread out, as 12 players currently have double digit points coming into the weekend.  Avi Adam has been a reliable playmaker and leads the way for Cornell in that regard. She is tied for first on the team in assists with with 17. Her 10 goals on the year pushes her point-total to 27 which leads the team.

Lindzi Avar has had a seamless adjustment to the college game. Avar currently leads the team with 14 goals to go along with five assists. She has been named ECAC Hockey Rookie of The Week three times this season. Avar was named the Ivy League Rookie of The Year.

Captain and defense-woman Ashley Messier has been a model of consistency for the Big Red so far this season. Messier has 13 assists to go along with seven goals on the year. Messier's impact on the defensive end is felt, as she has 36 blocked shots on the year to pair with a +18.

ECAC Hockey All-League Teams
Annelies Bergmann was named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of The Year, becoming the second net-minder (Lindsay Browning, 2019-20) in program history to be honored with the award. Bergmann was named an ECAC Hockey First-Team selection. Bergmann has displayed dominance and consistency in net this season, putting herself in the conversation for National Goaltender of The Year and Patty Kazmaier Award consideration.

Cornell women's ice hockey defensewoman Ashley Messier was named an ECAC Hockey Second-Team selection. This marks the first time in Messier's career that she has been named to an All-ECAC team. Cornell women's ice hockey defender Rory Guilday and forward Avi Adam were named as ECAC Hockey Third-Team selections. For Guilday, this marks her first all-conference nod since her freshman campaign, and Adam's first of her career. Cornell women's ice hockey forward Lindzi Avar has been unanimously named to the ECAC Hockey All-Rookie team.

Ivy League Dominance
The Cornell women's ice hockey team secured two major Ivy League honors to go along with five All-Ivy selections and a pair of honorable mentions. The Big Red's dominance in the yearly Ivy Awards comes as no surprise, as Cornell produced an 8-0-2 undefeated-record against Ivy League foes as it claimed its 17th Ivy League Championship in program history.

Lindzi Avar was named Ivy League Rookie of The Year due to her stellar freshman season for the Big Red. Doug Derraugh, the Everett Family Head Coach of women's ice hockey, Edith Racine, and Tim Crowley were named Ivy League Coaching Staff of The Year. Avar, Rory GuildayAshley MessierAnnelies Bergmann, and Alyssa Regalado were named to All-Ivy teams, in addition to Katie Chan and Avi Adam being recognized with honorable-mention. Lily Delianedis was the Cornell recipient of the Academic All-Ivy distinction.

Follow The Action
Puck drop for the semifinal game between the Big Red and the Golden Knights is slated for 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 7 at Lynah Rink. Semifinal game two between the Raiders and the Saints is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 7. The winners of those two contests will play the championship game, which is slated to take place on Saturday March, 8 at 3:30 p.m. All of the games played on ECAC Hockey Championship Weekend will be broadcast on ESPN+.
