Five Women's Lacrosse Players Earn All-Ivy Recognition

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's lacrosse team had five players honored on the All-Ivy League teams when they were announced on Tuesday afternoon by the conference office. Seniors Caitlin Slaminko and Alexa Donahoe and junior Caitlin Tully were voted to the second team by the conference's eight head coaches, with senior Kylie Gelabert and junior Dillyn Patten capturing honorable mention accolades. Additionally, senior Ellie Horner was named to the Academic All-Ivy squad.

A Tewaaraton Trophy nominee, Slaminko ranked fifth in the Ivy League in goals (41) and was seventh in points per game (3.93). The senior was one of the most accurate shooters in the country, scoring on 58 percent of her shots (12th nationally). Her 455 pints on the season we a career-high, and she added 17 ground balls, 41 draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. Slaminko posted 12 contests with at least three points, including six games with five or more. The two-year team captain tallied three goals, three ground balls and seven draw controls at Syracuse and scored six times with five draws and two ground balls in a win over nationally-ranked Brown.

Donahoe set personal bests in goals (19), assists (four), points (23), ground balls (19), caused turnovers (12) and draw controls (24) as part of a banner senior campaign that saw her start all 15 games. Donahoe recorded seven multi-point games and scored on 63 percent of her shots on the season. She had three different games with three points, including a hat trick to go along with two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls against Binghamton, along with a goal, an assist and six draw wins in the season finale at Yale. 

Tully was one of the conference's top defenders, ranking third in caused turnovers (1.50 per game). The junior opened all 15 games for the Big Red, posting 30 ground balls to go along with her 22 caused turnovers and two draw controls. Tully forced five turnovers in games against both Stanford and Princeton, scooping up five ground balls in each of those games, then forced three more at Penn. In all, 15 of her caused turnovers came against ranked foes. She scored her first career goal in a win at Columbia and won two draws to go along with three ground balls and a caused turnover in the season finale at Yale.

Gelabert had a career season as a senior, pacing the team and ranking sixth in the Ivy League in scoring with 58 points (26 goals, 32 assists). She added nine ground balls, five draw controls and four caused turnovers. In conference games, Gelabert posted 12 goals and 19 assists for 31 points and had multiple points in each league contest, including a school record-tying six assists in a win over nationally-ranked Harvard on Senior Day. She was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week after scoring seven goals on seven shots as part of a nine-point day in a win over Niagara. Both her goals and points totals against the Purple Eagles were one off a single-game school record.

Patten received her first All-Ivy honor after a strong season as a two-way midfielder. She ranked among the team leaders with her 19 goals and five assists for 24 points while adding 17 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers and 25 draw controls - all career highs. She started all 15 contests for the Big Red and posted eight multi-point games with hat tricks at Columbia, New Hampshire and Yale. Patten won six draw controls in a win at Penn State and added two ground balls, two caused turnovers and three draw wins in the victory over Columbia.

Cornell posted a 9-6 overall record (3-4 Ivy) and earned votes in the final IWLCA poll. The Big Red defeated two teams currently ranked in the top 25 (Brown and Harvard).
