Women's Lax Honors Seniors, Hosts #21/22 Harvard In Key Ivy Matchup

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's lacrosse team will honor its seniors playing their final game on Schoellkopf Field and try to take a step closer to qualifying for the Ivy League Tournament when it faces No. 21/22 Harvard on Saturday, April 12 at 12 p.m. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN+.

• Sixteen Big Red seniors will dress for their final game on Schoellkopf Field this weekend and will be honored during the pregame: Emma Calcagni, Mia DiChiara, Alexa Donahoe, Lucy Dwyer, Kylie Gelabert, Ellie Horner, Chloe Maister, Brynn McDonald, • Bailey Mutch, Alessia Packard, Annie Parker, Maggie Pons, Lauren Riker, Caitlin Slaminko, Marissa Stafford and Josie Vogel
• The Big Red enters the weekend tied for fourth alongside Harvard and Yale at 2-2 in the Ivy League standings with its sights set on qualifying for the Ancient Eight tournament.
• Cornell is in the midst of closing the regular season with four consecutive Ivy games against ranked opponents beginning with a 12-11 loss to No. 8 Princeton this past Saturday at home.
• A furious second-half comeback fell just short despite five points from senior Caitlin Slaminko, five caused turnovers by junior Caitlin Tully and 18 saves from junior Mackenzie Clark.
• Graap's team returns five of its top six scorers, a veteran defense composed of four seniors, and its top two goalkeepers.
• Cornell, picked sixth in the Ivy League's Preseason Media Poll, is coming off a 7-8 campaign (2-5 Ivy) a season ago.

• move the Big Red's record to 9-4 on the season.
• make Cornell 3-2 in Ivy League play.
• narrow the deficit in the all-time series to 26-20 and snap the Crimson's two-game win streak over the Big Red.
• be the first win by the Big Red over a ranked opponent since dropping No. 19 Yale 14-12 on April 22, 2023 and its first at home since knocking off No. 13 Stanford 15-7 on March 31, 2015.
• push Graap's career record at Cornell to 243-172 (.586) and to 264-216 overall (.550).

LAST TIME VS. HARVARD
• The Cornell women's lacrosse team fell behind early and could not recover in a 13-5 loss to Harvard at Jordan Field. 
• Cornell, who had a season-low nine shots on goal and a season-high 22 turnovers, also had its three-game winning streak in Cambridge snapped with the defeat.
• Senior captain Caitlin Slaminko netted two goals on three shot attempts for her fifth multi-point game of 2024. 
• Three other upperclassmen found the back of the net in Alexa Donahoe, Kylie Gelabert, and Josie Vogel
• Cornell's defense was led by Ellie Horner, who logged 11 saves and had a .458 save percentage. 
• Senior defender Annie Thomas also locked down the draw circle with eight victories and a team-high two caused turnovers.
• Senior Riley Campbell paced Harvard's potent offense with five goals and an assist. 
• Callie Hem was the other notable Crimson attacker, logging two goals and an assist. 

LAST TIME OUT
• Junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Clark kept the Big Red in the game throughout, but a furious fourth-quarter comeback fell just short as No. 8/7 Princeton held on to top Cornell women's lacrosse 12-11 on Schoellkopf Field. 
• Trailing by as many as seven goals in the fourth quarter, the Big Red closed the game on a 7-1 run to get within a goal before it ran out of time. 
• Clark registered 18 saves in her second start of the season to take the hard-luck loss. T
Caitlin Tully had five caused turnovers in front of her and claimed five ground ball victories.
• Senior Caitlin Slaminko had three goals and two assists, becoming the 31st player in school history to reach 100 career points. 
Alexa Donahoe and Maggie Pons scored two apiece. 
• Cornell battled throughout despite being out-shot 45-29 and winning only seven of the 26 draw controls.
• McKenzie Blake scored six goals to lead the Princeton offense, while Sophie Whiteway had two goals and an assist to go along with seven draw controls. 
• Amelia Hughes was solid in goal, making 12 stops to pick up the victory for the Tigers.

MILESTONE WATCH
• Senior Josie Vogel's 130 points rank 16th all-time at Cornell and needs three to reach the top 15.
• With 101 career goals, Vogel is seven away from joining the school's top 10 list.
• With 48 assists, Maggie Pons is on the verge of becoming the 10th player in school history with 50 helpers, joining teammate Kylie Gelabert (52).
• Senior Caitlin Slaminko is six draw controls away from reaching the top 15 all-time in that category (currently with 84).
• Senior Ellie Horner is the fifth Big Red goalkeeper with 20 career wins and is three away from joining the top four.
• With 266 career saves, Horner needs 10 to jump to seventh on Cornell's career list.

NOTES TO KNOW
• Four classmates have reached the century mark in career points — Josie Vogel (16th, 130), Kylie Gelabert (24th, 113), Maggie Pons (28th, 105) and Caitlin Slaminko (30th, 104) are all over 100 points.
• Senior Maggie Pons tied the school's single-game record for assists with six in the win over Binghamton — a mark hit six times previously, the last by Emily Tripodi against Boston University in 2013.
• The Big Red has reached double figures in goals in 11 of its 12 contests this season with a pair of 20-goal games and another with 19 scores.
• Cornell set team records for goals (24), assists (17) and points (41) in the Big Red's 24-7 victory over Niagara, while its 21 draw controls were tied for the third-most in school history.
• Kylie Gelabert recorded seven goals, two assists and nine points in the win over Niagara, scoring goals on all seven shot attempts. The seven goals and nine points were both one shy of the Big Red single-game records.
• Ella Wilmot's eight-point effort (three goals, five assists) against the Purple Eagles left her one short of the single-game school record for assists and her points total good for ninth all-time.
• Sophomore Ellie Bergin's 13 draw controls against Binghamton established a new single-game school record, surpassing the 12 Annie Thomas '24 recorded against UAlbany in 2022. 
• Bergin followed that up the next game with 10 draws, becoming just the second player in school history to have multiple games with 10 or more draws (Annie Thomas '24 did it four times).
• The Big Red has posted three of the four highest single-game draw control totals in school history, including matching the record of 22 against Columbia.  
• Cornell's offense has put at least 70 percent of its shots on target in 10 of 12 games this season and over 80 percent six times.
• The defense caused 18 turnovers against Stanford earlier this season, the most by a Big Red team in a game since forcing 19 at Rutgers in 2010.
• In nine contests against unranked opponents in 2025 (8-1), the Big Red offense is averaging 16.4 goals and the defense has allowed just 9.2 goals and posted a .461 save percentage.
• The Big Red is 8-0 this season when leading at the half, keeping up its wild success when leading at the break under head coach Jenny Graap '86 (195-21, .903).
• In 11 games this season, junior Ella Wilmot (22 goals, 21 assists) has nearly quadrupled her career scoring total entering the campaign (12 points).
• Another big trend under Graap — Cornell is 194-25 (.886) when holding opponents to fewer than 10 goals in a game and 93-2 (.979) when that is six or fewer.
• Senior Josie Vogel was named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic At-Large All-District Team after sporting a 3.70 GPA in Government.
• Sophomore defender Julia Ramsey in a two-year letter winner on the field hockey team where she already ranks sixth in school history in career assists (21). Her sister, Caroline '24, is a two-time All-American, Cornell's all-time leading scorer and a member of the Team USA in field hockey.
• One of Ramsey's cousins was Annie Thomas '24, Cornell's all-time leader in draw controls (233).
• Junior midfielder Dillyn Patten joined the England Women's Senior Performance Squad this past December.
• The England Women's Field Lacrosse Team is ranked third in the world and won the Women's European Lacrosse Championship 2024. 
• Patten's sister, Kendall '24, played soccer for the Big Red, as did her mother, Corinne (Cantrall) Patten '92.
• The Big Red has qualified for the Ivy League Tournament 10 times in the 14 years it has been held.
• Senior defender Alessia Packard has a sister (Antonia '25, field hockey) and brother (Charles '24, men's lacrosse) who are recent Big Red graduates and varsity athletes.

THE CAPTAINS
• The Big Red is led by three captains this season: seniors Caitlin Slaminko and Lucy Dwyer along with junior Caitlin Tully
• Slaminko returns as a two-time captain, while Tully and Dwyer take on the role for the first time.

NEW YORK STATE OF MIND
• The matchup with Niagara on Feb. 25 was Cornell's 250th all-time game against fellow New York state schools.
• Cornell has traditionally been very successful against collegiate teams from New York state, posting an all-time record of 163-85-3 (.654).
• The Big Red has five New York teams on its schedule during the 2025 season – Syracuse (L, 18-10), Colgate (15-6), Niagara (24-7), Binghamton (W, 20-9) and Columbia.

NOTES ON JENNY GRAAP '86
• Jenny Graap '86 ranks as the 12th active winningest Division I women's lacrosse coach with her 261 career victories. Directly ahead of her in 11th is Joe Spallina of Stony Brook who entered the season with 283 victories.
• Her 28 seasons on the Big Red sidelines makes her the third-longest tenured coach at their school entering the 2025 season, behind only Duke's Kerstin Kimel (1996) and North Carolina's Jenny Levy (1996).
• Graap ranks fourth on the Ivy League's all-time wins list, behind only Princeton's Chris Sailer (433 from 1987-2022), Penn's Karin Corbett (273 from 2000-present) and Harvard's Carole Kleinfelder (259 from 1979-2003) as of March 19.
• In her 28th season, Graap is the longest tenured women's head coach in school history (in any sport) and is currently the Dean among women's lacrosse coaches in the Ivy League.
• Graap's 240 career wins (and counting) for the Big Red ranks her 12th all-time among Cornell head coaches in all sports and second among women coaches (behind Andrea Dutcher with 346 volleyball wins from 1974-87).

HALL OF FAME
• Jessi Steinberg '12 was inducted into the Cornell Athletics Hall of Fame this past fall.
• A three-time first-team All-Ivy League selection and a three-time IWLCA Northeast All-Region pick, she graduated with the fourth-most points (177), third-most goals (136) and eighth-most assists (41) in school history. 
• Steinberg's senior season total of 65 points was also the third-best single season ever at Cornell.
• The two-time Big Red team captain was the leading scorer for the Israeli national team that competed at the 2017 FIL World Cup and again competed in 2022.

IVY PRESEASON POLL
• The Big Red was chosen sixth in the Ivy League Preseason Media Poll announced in February.
• Cornell finished with a total of 54 points, just behind Harvard (71) and Brown (62) for the coveted fourth spot that will yield a spot in the Ivy League Tournament.
• Yale (125 points, 13 first-place votes), Penn (107 points, two first-place votes) and Princeton (104 points, one first-place vote) were chosen in the top three after making the NCAA Tournament a season ago.
• Dartmouth (54) and Columbia (17) rounded out the field.

NEXT UP
• The Big Red returns to the road for another challenge against a ranked opponent when it visits Penn on Saturday, April 19 at 3:30 p.m.
• The contest will be broadcast on ESPN+.
• The Quakers lead the all-time series 33-18 and has won two straight matchups.
• Penn's advantage is just 4-3 since the 2016 season after the Quakers had won 12 consecutive meetings prior.
