ITHACA, N.Y.—The Big Red women's hockey team fell to Princeton, 6-3, on Friday night in Lynah Rink. The Tigers scored three goals in a penalty-filled third period to earn the win. Laura Danforth and Liz Zorn each recorded a goal and an assist, while freshman defenseman Jess Martino netted her first collegiate goal.

The Big Red was hit with two early penalties in the first period, but junior goaltender Jenny Niesluchowski was solid in net making nine saves. At 8:29 of the first, Danielle DiCesare deflected a shot by Melanie Walace to score the Tigers' first goal.

Cornell evened the score at 12:34 when Martino caught the puck in the middle of the circles and with a slap shot notched her first goal in a Big Red jersey. Junior Melanie Jue assisted on the goal.

Princeton took a 2-1 lead into the second period, after Christine Foster scored at 13:31 of the first.

The Tigers went up 3-1, when DiCesare deflected another shot past Niesluchowski on the power play.

At 7:20 of the second period, the Big Red had a power play opportunity of its own and made the most of it with a goal by Zorn. Danforth and Karlee Overguard assisted on the goal.

With a little under four minutes left in the second, Overguard won the faceoff in the Big Red defensive zone. She grabbed the puck skating down the length of the ice and passed it to Danforth who notched her second goal of the season to tie the game.

The two teams were tied heading into the third. Princeton grabbed back the lead when Sasha Sherry notched a five-on-three power play goal. Walace and Foster each scored again in the third to give Princeton the 6-3 victory.

Niesluchowski made 37 saves in net, while Kristen Young made 28.

The Big Red will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, when it will play host to Quinnipiac for a 4 p.m. game in Lynah Rink.
