Saturday night's game marks just the fourth scoreless tie in Cornell history, with three of those coming within the last two seasons. Prior to that, the last scoreless tie in Cornell history came against Clarkson in the 1922-23 season.
Cornell got the game's first power play chance at the 15:00 minute mark of the first period when Clarkson's Brandon DeFazio was called for roughing after slamming
Tyler Mugford into the Clarkson penalty box. Karpowich made a pair of big saves, including a glove stop on a quick wrister by
Michael Kennedy, to keep Cornell off the scoreboard.
After the first period ended scoreless, the Big Red got its second power play of the night 5:27 into the second period on a boarding call on Shea Guthrie.
Michael Kennedy got a shot off from the top of the faceoff circle to Karpowich's left, but it was deflected into the netting behind the goal as the only scoring chance of the power play for the Big Red.
Clarkson's first power play of the night came at the 11:55 mark of the second period when
Joe Scali was whistled for holding, but Scrivens made a big stop on a shot by Shea Guthrie from close range to keep Clarkson off the board as the second period ended still scoreless.
Clarkson nearly missed breaking the deadlocked tie just over five minutes into the third period. Louke Oakley had a pair of chances, the first being stopped by the left leg of Scrivens and the second by the oustretched glove arm, getting a whistle to stop play.
The Golden Knights went back on the power play with 11:19 to play in the third on a hooking call on
Joe Devin, with Scrivens making three saves to keep the score tied at zero.
